It was supposed to be a fresh start. A small town where I could hide my little girl from the shadows that haunt us. A place where I could keep us safe.
The last thing I expected was him.
A surly, broody mountain of a man who helps me save an injured deer in a snowstorm.
Now, Roan Hartley keeps showing up with his glowers and grimaces. But they only make his rare smiles and the gentle way he talks to my daughter mean that much more.
When forces from my past find us, Roan is determined to keep us safe—even if that means sleeping on my ancient couch every night.
As days turn to weeks, his touch has my walls crashing down. But someone out there doesn’t want me to find happiness. He doesn’t want me left breathing at all…

Catherine Cowles is one of those authors which books just keep getting better every single time. And I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of her ARC team. So after reading and loving her previous three books in the Lost & Found series I couldn’t wait to read ‘Shadows of You’. And when it finally arrived on my kindle I started reading right away.

In ‘Shadows of You’ we read the story of Aspen Barlow. Aspen and her daughter have moved to the small town of Cedar Ridge five years ago. Although Aspen is making more friends, and her daughter is enjoying her school and dance classes, Aspen tries to stay out of the spotlight most of the time. Not because they want to, but because Aspen is determined to keep her daughter safe.

The last thing Aspen expected was to meet Roan Hartley. Although she has known the Hartley’s for years now, Roan was the only brother she never met because he doesn’t come into town often. But when Aspen finds herself in danger Roan is determined to keep her safe. And even though Roan seems to be this grumpy bear of a guy to the outside world, Aspen can see right through him and has no trouble with the handsome guy wanting to be her hero.

As expected ‘Shadows of You’ was a read I didn’t want and couldn’t put down. I loved getting back into the small town of Cedar Ridge and I had been really curious about Roan’s story. He was the only Hartley brother we rarely read about in the previous books because he keeps to himself most of the time. We got to know Aspen a little throughout the other books, but it was clear we missed a lot and I was so excited to finally read her secrets. And boy where her secrets intense!

Catherine Cowles always writes these perfect combinations of romance and suspense. And this book was no exception. It made me swoon one moment, and it made me sit on the edge of my seat filled with anxiety the next. Amazing.

Aspen and Roan’s romance story was so good. I loved how this, on the outside, tough and grumpy guy changed when he met Aspen and her daughter. I loved how easily they seemed to understand each other. And Aspen’s character was my favorite without a doubt. I loved how hard she worked, and how determined she was to give her little girl the best life possible. As a mom I was rooting for her from the start.

Although I loved this series so far, I am so excited and anxious to read book five that is coming next year. This will be Lawson’s story, and from the moment I started reading about him I knew his story would be my favorite. February can’t come fast enough!

And if you had any doubts, these books can be read as a standalone. But for the perfect experience I would recommend reading them in order.
