Life:
This week
has been a strange one for me. In my last night shift this Monday I had a bad
experience with one of my patients which really shook me. As a nurse you never
know what a work day will bring, and working on a Traumatology ward definitely
is never boring. Criminals, old people, young people, psychiatric people, we
see them all. But this patient was out of the blue very aggressive. That
situation lasted for hours and I felt very unsafe. And I have been struggling
with that situation this week. I haven’t been able to sleep well and I can’t
seem to stop thinking about it. I have had different conversations about it with
people from work, and slowly on I’m feeling better again. But life has been
mostly very uneventful since I’ve been to tired and sad to do much else. It did
made me realize even more how lucky I am with my fiancé. He really is my rock!

one great thing about this week was that I finally got to try my wedding dress on
again. And it was even more beautiful than I remembered. I can’t wait to show
this pretty dress to everyone. Two weeks from now I have to go back for a final
fitting and then my dress is ready. Yeah!! 😀

This week
we will have a tasting at our wedding location and I’m going to the Harry
Potter expedition that started in The Netherlands this week. I’m super excited.
I think it will be a good week, and hopefully I’ll sleep a little better too.

Books & Blogging:
Since I
haven’t been able to sleep much this week my concentration hasn’t been as good
too. So unfortunately I wasn’t able to concentrate on my reading as much as I
wanted too. I did finish one book, started a new one and did some blogging. But
I planned on visiting more blogs this week, and that didn’t work out. I hope to
visit you all more this week. But I hope you guys bear with me if not.

Wow, what a traumatic event! That takes me back to some of my social worker experiences and the unexpected (or maybe not all that surprising) events that happened.
Hope it was a one-off that you won't experience again.

What a stressful experience. I can't imagine being able to do what you do. It sounds like you have a good support network to help you recover though. Glad you still love your dress…imagine if you hadn't?
Whaha.. Yes that would have been terrible! But I read it did happen to me. I can't imagine though.. How can you really love something and then suddenly don't.

So sorry to hear you had to undergo such a horrible situation – it seems monumentally unfair that people like you who are on the front line with wanting to help are often threatened and injured by those they are trying to assist:(. I'm glad you've got the wedding dress for comfort and really sorry to hear about the work patient. Hopefully your workplace has support systems and health and safety procedures in place so you don't have to feel unsafe in future!

Your workplace should provide counseling for things like what happened. I hope you seek out additional resources. I can't imagine what you went through or how scary it is. Glad your fiance is such a support. And yay for the dress! I can't wait til you show pictures!
Thanks Charlie. My workplace definitely has counseling. I already had an appointment. I was really glad to see we get such help as employers.
