Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

After reading so many great reviews about ‘The Cruel Prince’ and the Folk of the Air series, I just had to read this book myself. So a little while ago I bought it. And since this is a new year, and one of my new resolutions is reading more books from my TBR, I finally started reading this book.

In ‘The Cruel Prince’ we meet Jude. After having witnessed her parents murder when she seven years old, she and her sisters where taken to life in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Being a human between fey is not an easy task. Jude will never fit in, but that’s all she really wants. But there is a lot going on in the land of Faerie. For one a new King is about to be crowned, and Jude has been taken her long hold feud between herself and Cardan to a new level. Cardan is a prince, and a very cruel one. Jude hates everything about him, and she is done keeping her head bowed low.

‘The Cruel Prince’ was a book that took me in right from the start. There is a lot going on, and Holly Black had a way of setting this world of Faerie that I found very impressive. It didn’t take me long at all to get pulled right into the story. There are a lot of creatures and rules to learn, and I loved it all.

After reading a lot of Contemporary Romance, reading a YA fantasy novel definitely was something different. But I loved it. I loved getting to know Jude. And I enjoyed her adventures and the way she started to stand up for herself more and more through out this read. There even was a bit of romance, not a lot.. but it was there and I loved that part too.

The fantasy part and the action was something that kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. I found myself desperate to learn what would happen next. The fact that a lot of these characters seemed to have a hidden agenda, made this read even more interesting because I just had no idea of someone was speaking the truth.

If there is one thing that ‘The Cruel Prince’ did, was making me want to buy the second book right away. I loved getting to meet these characters and I look forward to continuing this series.
