She isn’t looking for love. He’s not planning on staying around. But when they meet, sparks fly… As a big city firefighter, Lucas lives for his job. Forced to take extended leave following an accident, he returns to his small hometown to stay at the beach cottage his grandparents left him. The problem is, he’s not used to having so much time on his hands. After a broken engagement, Ember isn’t ready for love right now. Though her heart might be mended, she prefers to keep herself busy with her family and work; that way she won’t get hurt again. But she didn’t count on meeting a handsome firefighter with that dimpled smile. After Lucas saves her from one awkward situation too many, she can’t stop thinking about him. Ember finds Lucas impossible to resist. And he’s determined not to let her. As long summer days melt into sultry, passionate nights what begins as a fling develops into something much deeper. Until the day Ember’s ex-fiancé returns to town and threatens to destroy the fragile connection that’s building between them.

I just love Carrie Elks. And ever since I read her Shakespeare Sisters series I’m just hooked on her books. So when I saw a sign up for an arc of her new book in her reader group on Facebook I couldn’t sign up fast enough. And I was so excited when I received the arc of ‘Let Me Burn’. ‘Let Me Burn’ is the first book in Carrie Elk’s brand new Angel Sands series.

In ‘Let Me Burn’ we meet Ember, a teacher who has lived in the same town all her life. Ember’s life hasn’t been easy lately. First her fiancé broke off her engagement rather suddenly and fled town, and only a view months later her father suddenly died. Now Ember is trying to get her life back together. And although Ember isn’t looking for a new romance, when she meets Lucas a handsome firefighter she can’t deny the attraction.

‘Let Me Burn’ is yet another great read. The main characters Ember and Lucas are interesting to get to know. They were two very relatable characters and I was rooting for them from the start. The romance between Ember and Lucas is just so sweet and I couldn’t get enough of them.

There were also some very interesting other characters in this book like Ember’s best friends, and Lucas’s friends and his sister. I can’t wait to find out if we get to read more about them in the other books in this series.

What I also really loved about this book was the setting in the small town. I just love small town stories. And Angel Sands definitely sounded like a fun small town, I’d love to read more about. There’s just something about these small towns that make me really enjoy reading about them.

The reason I give ‘Let Me Burn’ four stars instead of five is that I wished that there were a little less lose ends at the end of the book. I just still have a lot of questions at the end of this book and I really wished I got a view more answers. But overall this book was yet another great romantic read, and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.

“Will you do something for me?” Lucas asked, leaning his hand on the car and glancing up at her.
“Um, maybe?” She blinked, trying to focus. “I guess it depends what it is.”
With one hand steadying himself on the car, he ran the other across his closely cropped hair. “It doesn’t matter.”
Ember tilted her head, the smile still playing at her lips. “You can’t do that. I’m intrigued now. What is it you want me to do?”
“I… ah…” He shook his head. “You’re gonna think I’m crazy.” She lifted an eyebrow to let him know she already did.

“But I really don’t want you to go on that date.”
