When I received a review request for ‘All of Us Villians’, I got so excited. I don’t read a lot of YA Fantasy, but this book sounded really exciting. And something about that cover just made me want to grab it and start reading. In ‘All of Us Villians’ we visit the remote city of Ilvernath ...KEEP READING »

Broken Dawn (Immortal Guardians, #10)

Broken Dawn (Immortal Guardians, #10)

Since I finally caught up on my reading, I felt it was time to start reading books from my very long TBR. When I started to look through my list, my eye caught the cover of ‘Broken Dawn’. I never read a book by Dianne Duvall before, and I was a little anxious about this being book ten in the series, but I read some great stuff about this book so I decided to start reading.

In ‘Broken Dawn’ we meet Nick Belanger. Nick has been attracted to his neighbor for years now. Kayla is a single mom, and absolutely gorgeous. But Nick knows he has to stay away from her. Nick is an immortal warrior, fighting vampires for a living. What could he give Kayla? So he stays away.

Kayla has been watching her handsome neighbor for awhile now. He is so handsome and kind, but he never seems to want to be around her for long. But when Kayla’s life is in danger, Nick can’t stay away any longer.

Although this book is book 10 in the series, I can easily be read as a standalone. Yes, I could tell some of these side characters had a story of their own and there seems to be a lot more going on in this world then I found out through this read. But it didn’t bother me at all. It only made me curious to read the previous books to be honest. And that is a plus.

The paranormal aspect of this book was definitely fun. The author explains the ‘gifts’ of these immortals, so I never felt like I missed out on something. I loved the idea of these Immortal Guardians, and I really like to figure out more about this world.

The romance between Nick and Kayla feels a bit sudden. But both these characters have been attracted to each other from a distance for years. So it kind of fitted the story. And I loved their chemistry right from the start.

I did feel like the major ‘event’ in this book wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. Which made this book more of a Romance, than a suspense, but overall I definitely enjoyed this read and I look forward to reading more books in this series.

A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire, #1)

I’ve been a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing for a while now. And when I started reading the Blood and Ash series last year, I got hooked immediately and I’ve devoured all three books in the series ever since. So when I found out that there would be another book based in the world of the Blood and Ash series, I got super excited. And when ‘A Shadow in the Ember’ got announced, I immediately pre-ordered it.

‘A Shadow in the Ember’ pulled me in right from the very first page. In this book we meet Seraphena Mierel. A mortal who has always known what her destiny was. All her life she worked to become the Consort to the Primal of Death. But he, Nyktos a.k.a. Ash, the Primal of Death’ is unlike anything she is thought to believe. To safe her country, Sera must get close to Ash. But he isn’t what she expected. And there is a lot more to their story then both could ever imagine.

Ever since I heard about this book, I knew I wanted to read it. And when I was finally able to start reading, I couldn’t stop reading at all. Just like I couldn’t stop reading the books in the Blood and Ash series. And yes, this book was just as amazing.. Maybe even better. And that cover.. I mean really? Gorgeous right?!

I loved getting to know the world set in this book. The Primals, the Gods.. and Seraphena or Sera. Boy did I love her character! Sera was definitely a character I couldn’t get enough from. I loved how tough and strong she was. And the way she never stayed silent when it probably would have been wiser to do so.

And then Ash, or Nyktos.. Amazing!! I loved him! The chemistry between Sera and Ash was amazing. And I couldn’t get enough of their story. They made me feel so many things! I definitely devoured the pages wanting to learn more about them. And Ash definitely was just so amazing.

But not only the chemistry between the two main characters was amazing. There was plenty of action, and suspense going on as well. There is a lot of world building, and secrets.. and everything in this book kept me sitting on the edge of my seat.

‘A Shadow in the Ember’ is another perfect read by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I simple cannot get enough of this world. And I’m so not ready to let go of Seraphena and Ash. I definitely hope we get to read the next book in this series soon, because I can’t wait to learn more about them.

The Jasmine Throne (Burning Kingdoms, #1)

I’ve been trying to read some different genres than only romance lately. So a fantasy novel sounded perfect. And after reading a lot of raving reviews of ‘The Jasmine Throne’, I was excited to see this book was on Netgalley and I requested it immediately. Luckily I got approved to read it and started reading as soon as possible.

In ‘The Jasmine Throne’ we meet Priya, a maidservant who lives a simple life hiding a big secret. Priya works hard and travels to the top of the Hirana every night. There Priya meets Malini, a princess who is imprisoned by her brother and lives under harsh conditions. Soon Priya and Malini find themselves linked and working together.

‘The Jasmine Throne’ was from the very first page a very interesting read. The world created in this book was definitely very unique and made for a very fascinating setting. I loved getting to know this world and the main characters Priya and Malini. There was a lot going on and things definitely never got boring.

Priya’s character was definitely my favorite. I loved how tough and kind she was and she was just a very admirable character. This book also had a fun and interesting lesbian romance aspect that I definitely enjoyed. It worked perfect for this book. Priya a simple servant, and Malini a traitorous princess. I loved reading their story and getting to know them.

The one problem I had in this book was all those different names and characters. I’m really bad at names, and there where so many different characters I had a little trouble keeping everyone apart. But in the end I managed.

‘The Jasmine Throne’ was a very fun and unique fantasy novel that definitely makes you want to keep on reading.

Shadow and Bone (Shadow and Bone, #1)

Shadow and Bone (Shadow and Bone, #1)

When I saw the trailer of the new Netflix show ‘Shadow and Bone’ I knew this was a series I wanted to see. But like always, I prefer to read the book first and I knew I’ve had the book standing on my shelf for a long time. So, it was definitely time to grab my copy of the book and finally start reading it.

In ‘Shadow and Bone’ we meet Alina, a young girl who grew up in an orphanage with her best friend Mal. Alina has always been a normal girl, but one day she finds out she has this power and suddenly her life will never be the same. Alina’s ‘gift’ got the attention of the Darkling, the most powerful, dangerous and handsome guy around. But can Alina trust the Darkling? And what about Mal, the guy she grew up with but who doesn’t seem to want anything to do with her anymore?

From the moment I started reading ‘Shadow and Bone’ I was definitely hooked. Something about the way Leigh Bardugo wrote this book made me want to keep on reading. I rarely read Fantasy novels these days, so I was glad to find I still love that genre as much as I did a few years back. In ‘Shadow and Bone’ Leigh Bardugo created a whole new world. There are Grisha, people with ‘gifts’ and ‘average’ people. There is this scary bit of land called the Shadow Fold where horrible creatures life. And it was just a whole new and exciting world for me to get to know.

And don’t even get me started about the characters in this book. I mean I LOVED these characters. Alina, was definitely your average young girl. But there is something special about her and I loved how normal she was. She really has a great sense of humor too. There where several moments in this book that reading about what Alina’s character was thinking and saying made me laugh.

And then the guys in this book! Mal and the Darkling are definitely both very fascinating characters. Mal is the guy Alina grew up with. He is very handsome, and catches the eyes of many girls around. But he doesn’t seem to notice Alina that much anymore. Which made me not like him all that much in the beginning to be honest. It sort of felt like he forgot about his best friend because he got all these pretty girls surrounding him. Thankfully his character grew on me in the end.

And then the Darkling. Well.. what a character he was. The Darkling is this mysterious dangerous powerful guy and in the end of the book I still couldn’t really figure him out. He definitely was my favorite character though. Which is a little awkward since I’m still not sure if he is good or evil. I thought I knew, and then I didn’t.. and now I just want to read the next book to hopefully figure him out more.

‘Shadow and Bone’ was a wonderful read that I definitely devoured. I already ordered the next two books. I’m not sure if I’ll be watching the Netflix show yet though.. Maybe I’ll need to read the complete trilogy before I do that. Hmm.. We’ll see.
