Caleb
I came to the lake to be left alone, to lick my wounds. I wasn’t counting on neighbors and I especially wasn’t counting on her.

Lucie was a little kid the last time I was here. Now she’s grown—and God, did she ever grow up—with two little kids of her own.

She’s everywhere I look, no matter how hard I try to avoid her. I’d forgotten all the things I used to want, used to dream about. She’s reminding me…and making me want every last one of them again.

Lucie
From the moment I first saw Caleb when I was six, I knew he belonged to me. And I knew I’d have to save him—because how else does the girl nobody wants win over the boy beloved by all?

Nothing about his life or mine has gone to plan. He’s isolated and miserable. I’ve got a vindictive ex and more problems than I can count.

But what hasn’t changed is this: it still feels like he’s mine.

And I still think I may need to save him.

After reading three books written by Elizabeth O’Roark these last few years, I knew this was an author I wanted to read more off. So when I got the opportunity to read ‘The Summer I Saved You’ I signed right up. And when I got the ARC, I started reading right away.

In ‘The Summer I Saved You’ we read the story of Lucie and Caleb. They met years ago when they both stayed at a home at the lake. Now, twenty years later they meet again. Lucie has just left her horrible husband, and is trying to start over with her young twins. Moving next to Caleb seems like fate, especially since she has always loved him. Caleb is a workaholic who isn’t looking for a distraction. But from the moment they meet there is something between them. But the timing couldn’t be worse for the both of them.

‘The Summer I Saved You’ was right from the start a read that I really enjoyed. The two main characters Lucie and Caleb had this intense chemistry between them and I loved both their characters so much. Lucie had a very rough childhood. Unwanted by both her parents, she learned how to take care of herself from a young age. When she met Caleb as a kid, she knew they where meant to be. But things never ended up going her way. And she got married to a guy that changed soon after she said I do.

Caleb has had a traumatic experience, but never dealt with it. He started working, and now all he does is work.

The chemistry between Lucie and Caleb was wonderful. I loved reading how they got closer, even though life really got in their way. It was just so heartbreaking to read their story and I really rooted for them. I definitely wished Lucie would stand up for herself a bit more at times though. The way her ex-husband treated her was just so horrible. It frustrated me a lot!

‘The Summer I Saved You’ was a fun read that I couldn’t put down. Although this is book two in the Summer series, it can easily be read as a standalone. I can’t wait to read the first book as well.

About Elizabeth O'Roark

Elizabeth O'Roark has a bunch of degrees she does not use and gave up working as a medical writer to craft grumpy, alpha heroes and the flawed women who love them. When not writing, she likes to spend time with her three kids, who are now teenagers and wish she'd find a different way to spend time. She can be found on Facebook feverishly debating whether or not "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie and telling people to read "The Hating Game", which she did not write but wishes she had.
