Will she accept the offer before the clock strikes midnight? Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball. Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, waltzing in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight. Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other— except, perhaps, this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. If he offers her his heart, will he sacrifice his only chance for a fairy-tale love?

After reading ‘The Duke and I’ and ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’ I knew I wanted to read all the books in the Bridgerton series. I also loved the Netflix show, and just couldn’t get enough. So I started reading ‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ as soon as I could.

In ‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ we read the story of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett. Sophie is the bastard child of an earl and her stepmother has made her life a living hell. Forced to spend her days as a ‘slave’ Sophie rarely has fun. But when she gets the opportunity to go to a masked ball she decides to have fun for a chance. And that night becomes the best night of her life. Sophie meets the handsome Benedict Bridgerton, and they spend a magical evening together. But it isn’t really, and at midnight Sophie has to return to her real life.

‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ is definitely a Cinderella story. So it was a little predictable, but I still really liked it. After reading about Benedict in the other books, I was really curious about his story. And it definitely didn’t disappoint. His character is kind and charming and although he can also be a little arrogant, I loved reading about him. He definitely had a Prince Charming vibe about him.

Sophie’s character was also fun to get to know. She had a hard life, and I was sad to read about her struggles. Life can be hard for a woman in her era,  especially for one who is a bastard and has no one in her life. And it was nice to read about a character who wasn’t one of the ton.

Yes, this might be book three in the series.. but I’m still as excited to read it as with the first book. The story kept me hooked and it definitely made me want to keep on reading.

Check out my review of the first two books in the Bridgerton series here:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don’t read (or write) romance, and and if you watch reruns of the game show The Weakest Link you might just catch her winning the $79,000 jackpot. She displayed a decided lack of knowledge about baseball, country music, and plush toys, but she is proud to say that she aced all things British and literary, answered all of her history and geography questions correctly, and knew that there was a Da Vinci long before there was a code. A graduate of Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, Ms. Quinn is one of only sixteen members of Romance Writers of America’s Hall of Fame. Her books have been translated into 32 languages, and she lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest. The Bridgertons, her popular series of historical romance, is currently in production by Shondaland as a Netflix original series starring Julie Andrews, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rége-Jean Page.
