Halloween—with its tricks and treats—is a dust bunny’s dream come true. Just
ask Lyle, Sedona Snow’s faithful sidekick. But for Sedona, it’s a nightmare.
Though her new job managing a small hotel and tavern on Rainshadow is helping
her move on from her tragic past, a bizarre disaster down in the catacombs has
brought a pack of rowdy ghost hunters to her inn.

And now, Sedona’s ex has arrived on the island, claiming he wants to get back
together, just as a newcomer appears to have a strong interest in her. Cyrus
Jones is the new Guild boss in town. He has his own agenda when it comes to
Sedona, but even the best-laid plans are no match for the passion that springs
up on Rainshadow….

About the Series:

The Rainshadow series is a romantic-suspence series with a twist of paranormal.
This series takes place on the Rainshadow Island of the planet Harmony. On
Harmony things are a little different than on earth, especially after dark. There
are the creepy ruins of a long-vanished alien civilization, a mysterious
underground rainforest, and a most unusual kind of animal companion. In
addition, a wide variety of psychic powers are showing up in the population. It
seems that something in the environment on Harmony is bringing out the latent
psychic talents in people.

In the Rainshadow novels you will meet the passionate men and women who are
drawn to this remote island in the Amber Sea. You will also get to know their
friends and neighbors in the community of Shadow Bay.

‘The Hot
Zone’ is the third book in the Rainshadow series.

My Review:

I received a paperback of ‘The Hot Zone’ by Jayne Castle
through the ‘Little Brown Book Group’ in exchange for an honest review. ‘The
Hot Zone’ is the third book in the Rainshadow series. Even though I haven’t read
the previous books in this series I was super excited to start in this book.
The cover of this edition (by piatkus) looks truly amazing and I love just
looking at it.
In ‘The Hot Zone’ we meet Sedona Snow, a gatekeeper in
the world of Harmony. Sedona is not just any gatekeeper, Sedona is very
talented and unfortunately people take advantage of that fact. When Sedona
escapes a strange and dangerous disaster down in the catacombs she decides to
move to Rainshadow Island to start a new life. As the new manager of Knox’s
Resort and Tavern Sedona tries to forget her past. Together with her dust bunny
friend, Lyle, she feels right at home at the quiet island. Sedona feels almost normal
again. That is until Cyrus Jones, a.k.a. Dead Zone Jones, arrives on the
Island. Cyrus is the new boss of Rainshadow’s Ghost Hunters Guild and he is
very interested in Sedona.
In the beginning of ‘The Hot Zone’ I was a little afraid
that I wouldn’t be able to completely understand this book because I haven’t read
the previous books. Although it took me a while to understand everything and
all the different terms I really loved this story. This book is just a perfect
mix of mystery, action, chemistry and romance. I loved that this book was full
of special powers and strange creatures. This book was definitely my sort of
book. Jayne Castle’s writing pulled me in immediately and I couldn’t stop
reading.
The character I liked the most was definitely Cyrus. I
loved the way he wanted to look after Sedona even though she wasn’t immediately
able to trust him. Cyrus is the kind of guy who doesn’t give up on anything and
I really admired that about him. Even though he is this ‘strong’ guy he isn’t afraid
to show his insecurities.
Sedona was a character I really admired. Sedona hasn’t known
very much love and kindness from people in her life. Still she isn’t bitter at
all.
And let’s not forget Lyle, the dust bunny. If dust bunny’s
where a real thing I would definitely want one. Lyle, is the best friend you
can find out there if you ask me. I loved reading about him.
‘The Hot Zone’ is definitely a book you should read if you’re
a mystery/fantasy/romance lover. I couldn’t get enough and this book is
definitely going on my favorite list. I definitely need to read more books from
this series.
