To Sir Phillip, With Love (Bridgertons, #5)

So since I made it my mission to read all the Bridgerton books, it was now time for me to read book five ‘To Sir Philip, With Love’. This is Eloise Bridgerton's story. And I was so curious to find out what her story would be. Eloise’s character is definitely very ‘modern’ for her era ...KEEP READING »

Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Bridgertons, #4)

Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Bridgertons, #4)

So if you’ve been a regular visitor on my blog lately, you’d know that I have caught the Bridgerton bug. After reading book one, The Duke and I, I started watching the Netflix show and since then I watched the show multiple times already and I’ve been reading the books. And I just can’t get enough! So I was super excited to start reading Colin and Penelope’s story.

In ‘Romancing Mr. Bridgerton’ we finally get to read the story of Colin and Penelope. Penelope is now officially a spinster. After being still unmarried at twenty eight, Penelope is definitely a proven wallflower. And she has loved being able to have a little more freedom now the people around her seem to have given up on finding her a husband. Penelope has loved Colin for years, but he has always just been her best friends brother. But somehow now Colin starts to see Penelope in another light than before.. and he starts wondering how he has not been able to see how amazing she is.

I definitely enjoyed reading this book from the very first page. Above all I was so curious about Colin and Penelope’s story. But although I definitely enjoyed it, this wasn’t my favorite book in the series so far. It was fun, but it couldn’t keep my interest as much as I hoped.

Even though I’ve been super curious about their story, I just didn’t find their chemistry as fun and exciting as the chemistry between the characters in the previous books. But this book did give us some exciting insights in some of the secrets Julia Quinn has told us throughout the series. And I did enjoy finding out more about Colin and Penelope.

The best part about this book was definitely getting to know Colin and Penelope’s story and reading more about the other Bridgerton characters. And even if this book wasn’t my favorite.. I can’t wait to read the next book.

An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgertons, #3)

An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgertons, #3)

After reading ‘The Duke and I’ and ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’ I knew I wanted to read all the books in the Bridgerton series. I also loved the Netflix show, and just couldn’t get enough. So I started reading ‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ as soon as I could.

In ‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ we read the story of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett. Sophie is the bastard child of an earl and her stepmother has made her life a living hell. Forced to spend her days as a ‘slave’ Sophie rarely has fun. But when she gets the opportunity to go to a masked ball she decides to have fun for a chance. And that night becomes the best night of her life. Sophie meets the handsome Benedict Bridgerton, and they spend a magical evening together. But it isn’t really, and at midnight Sophie has to return to her real life.

‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ is definitely a Cinderella story. So it was a little predictable, but I still really liked it. After reading about Benedict in the other books, I was really curious about his story. And it definitely didn’t disappoint. His character is kind and charming and although he can also be a little arrogant, I loved reading about him. He definitely had a Prince Charming vibe about him.

Sophie’s character was also fun to get to know. She had a hard life, and I was sad to read about her struggles. Life can be hard for a woman in her era,  especially for one who is a bastard and has no one in her life. And it was nice to read about a character who wasn’t one of the ton.

Yes, this might be book three in the series.. but I’m still as excited to read it as with the first book. The story kept me hooked and it definitely made me want to keep on reading.

The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2)

After reading ‘The Duke and I’ and watching Bridgerton on Netflix, I knew I wanted to read more books in the Bridgerton series. I’ve read other books by Julia Quinn in the past. So I knew I loved this author.. but I wasn’t prepared to love this series so much. I’m definitely a Julia Quinn addict now!

In ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’ we read the story of the oldest Bridgerton brother Anthony. After Anthony’s oldest sister Daphne got married last season, Anthony now knows it’s time for him to find a wife. But he is determined to make this marriage thing work on his own terms. His wife must be pretty and smart. And he definitely doesn’t need the risk of falling in love with her. But when he finds the perfect candidate, her sister proves to be very difficult.

I was very curious about Anthony’s story. To be honest I didn’t really like his character all that much, throughout the first book, so I was excited and anxious to read more about him. And luckily this book made me like his character a lot more. Yes, he is quite arrogant and his search for a wife is rather strange. But in this story we get to know more about him.. and his love for his family makes him a lot more charming and loveable.

But my favorite character of this book was definitely Kate. She was just so much fun and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. Not even to an arrogant viscount. And I loved reading the little banters between Anthony and Kate.

Did I like this book as much as the first one? No, but it definitely came pretty close. The romance was fun  and made me want to keep on reading. And above all it made me want to read the other books in this series too.

Yes, I’m definitely addicted. I see an Amazon order in my future. LOL!!

The Duke and I (Bridgertons, #1)

Ever since I saw the preview of the new Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’, I knew I wanted to read the books on which the series was based. I’ve read two books by Julia Quin before, and I loved them. So before I was going to watch the series, I wanted to read this first book in the Bridgerton series. And after waiting patiently for my paperback, I was finally able to start reading.

In ‘The Duke and I’ we meet Daphne Bridgerton, the fourth of eight siblings who is now off a marriageable age. Unfortunately every eligible young men Daphne had any interest in, has only seen her as a friend. So when the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset comes back to London after his world travels he finds himself fascinated by Daphne. But Daphne is his best friends sister, and Simon is determined to never ever marry. Soon a fake courtship between the two, seems to be the perfect solution for both of them.

From the moment I started reading I was completely hooked. I loved getting back into the Regency Era, and was immediately charmed by the etiquette. Getting to know the Bridgerton family was definitely very charming. And I was soon curious about all these Bridgerton siblings. But above all.. I was soon hooked to reading about the Duke of Hastings, Simon. There was something very charming about him. And reading about his past, and how he became the man he is, made me love him right from the start.

Next to Simon’s character, Daphne was a very fun character to get to know. I loved her honesty and the way she wasn’t shy in her interactions with Simon. She made me laugh and I really enjoyed getting to know her. And I especially loved how tough she was with her older brothers. They definitely had her hands full with her.

The chemistry between Daphne and Simon was instant, even if they didn’t know it themselves and I couldn’t put this book down. I loved reading about their friendship at first, and then their romance. I wondered how they would come together in the end, and it was just so thrilling to learn more about their story.

‘The Duke and I’ was a wonderful story I loved from the beginning till the end. I read it in only two days, and that was only because I have a two year old running around. Otherwise I would have easily read it in a day. And above all I’m super excited to watch the Netflix series now. And book two is already ordered. 😀
