He’s her one chance for survival.

She’s his last hope for salvation.

Former member of Team Zulu, a clandestine black operations unit, Elias “Shep” Shepherd believes the only use he has nowadays is taking out human scum on home soil. After years of harrowing military deployments, the one place he finds peace is at his remote Appalachian Mountain cabin, far from civilians and the world he doesn’t fit in anymore.
When Shep accepts a Mafia contract, he doesn’t expect his mark to be a woman, or the sexiest thing in grease-stained overalls he’s ever laid eyes on. She stirs something inside Shep’s battle-hardened heart. Despite the risks, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her, even if it means breaking his no visitors rule at the cabin.
Muscle car mechanic Cameron McKenzie only needs one look at the towering wall of muscle who’s abducted her to know he’s a killing machine. Too bad for him, she’s not going down without a fight. Hidden away in his isolated mountain home, Cameron is reluctant to admit Shep might not be the heartless beast she thought he was. And as their mutual trust builds, so too does an intense attraction for her unlikely savior.
If the Mafia discovers Cameron is still alive, Shep will need every one of his elite skills to keep them both safe. Although he’s no longer sure which is more dangerous—The Mob’s demand for merciless retribution, or the woman who makes him wish he was worthy of her love.

After reading some very positive reviews about Julie Weaver and her Team Zulu series, I knew this was a series I wanted to read. So I put the first book, and the other ones as well, on my wish list on Amazon. And when I was looking for my next read I figured it was time to start reading the first book in the series. And I dived right in.

In ‘The Hit’ we read the story from both Cameron and Shep’s point of view. Cameron is a car mechanic who has been working hard to be where she is right now. The only family she has left is a her brother, but he has been getting in trouble for a long time. One night she unexpectantly finds Shep in her home. What she didn’t expect was for him to abduct her, and telling her he did it to protect her.

Shep is a hitman, hardened by his work in the army and a secret operations unit. He stays clear of people most days. The only people he encounters, are the scums he kills. And yes, they are scums. So when Shep gets offered a new job and finds Cameron at the end of his gun.. There instantly is something about her that makes him hesitate. And soon he makes it his mission to keep her safe.

I love romantic suspense and I had some high expectations of Julie Weaver. And I can honestly say she met all my expectations. From the moment I started reading ‘The Hit’ I was hooked. The writing pulled me in right from the start. We get to know Cameron and Shep. And Shep was definitely my favorite character. Sure, he is a killer, but he only kills people who deserve it and after getting to know him better I just felt like he did what he thought he was supposed to do. And boy was he a goner for Cameron right from the start. Swoon!!

There also where some twists in this read I really enjoyed. I figured the story would go one way, and then things ended going totally the other way. So fun. The suspense was definitely keeping me sitting on the edge of my seat and I kept wondering how things would ever end up going the right way.

Yes, ‘The Hit’ was a great read I enjoyed from start to finish. We end up meeting some future characters as well and I can’t wait to read their stories. This read was the perfect mix of sexy, suspense, romance and angst. And I just loved it.
