A legendary competition.A mesmerizing romance. An unbreakable bondbetween two sisters.
Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.
Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . beware of getting swept too far away.

After reading and hearing about ‘Caraval’ for years, I finally got myself a copy for Christmas. So ever since I got the book, I was looking for a moment where I was able to start reading. And finally I was able to start. And let me tell you.. I almost immediately started wondering why it took me so damn long to start reading this one.

In ‘Caraval’ we meet Scarlett Dragna. Scarlett has always dreamed of visiting the magical Caraval. But her very strict and cruel father made sure Scarlett and her sister Tella never left the island they grew up on. Scarlett is sure the only way for a better life for her and her sister is getting married, even if she never met the guy. But when Tella gets help from a mysterious sailor to take both her and Scarlett to Caraval at last, it looks like her dream finally does come true. And maybe her father will never find out?

To be honest, I never really got where the story of Caraval was about when I saw the many raving reviews about it. I just figured I had to read it myself. So when I finally started reading I found myself being swept away by the mystery of Caraval. There is just so much going on in this book, that it kept me hooked from start till finish.

I loved the main character Scarlett. When you read about her going to get married without knowing the guy, you have this idea about her. Well, forget that.. she is tough and brave and I just adored her. Scarlett would do anything for her sister. And her sister for her.

When Scarlett finally arrives at Caraval, she soon learns there is a lot more about Caraval than she thought. Yes, it’s magical, but also filled with twists and turns and it never slows down. I was just hooked. And don’t even get me started about Julian. Boy.. I loved him.

‘Caraval’ was the kind of read you start and only put down when you’ve read every single page. Amazing. I immediately bought book two, and can’t wait to start reading. It took me awhile to start this series, but I won’t stop till I read them all now!
