four-half-stars

A single dad, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.
Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.
I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.
Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.
Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.
Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.

I’ve read a few books by Devney Perry the last few years, and I loved them all. So when I read about a brand new series, I really wanted to read it. Luckily for me I got approved to receive an ARC. And when it arrived on my kindle, I started reading as soon as possible.

In ‘Coach’ we read the story of Millie and Ford. They met years ago at college and became best friends. For years Millie secretly loved Ford, and when she finally had the courage to come clean about her true feelings, he broke her heart. They haven’t seen each other in ten years. Ford became a professional football star and won big. Millie stayed at her college town and made a name for herself at the sports department.

Now, years later Ford moves back to town to start a coaching job. At first Millie thinks it’s going to be okay. She’ll be a professional and just keep Ford at a distance. But Ford doesn’t agree. He has been thinking about Millie for years, and after a disastrous marriage to his little girls mother, it’s time he choose something just for him.

From the moment I started ‘Coach’ I was hooked. I love Devney Perry’s way of writing and it pulled me right in. I loved getting to know the two main characters. Ford and Millie had this intense chemistry and I loved reading their story. I loved how they both couldn’t resist these intense feelings between them, even though life sure made it difficult for them.

Although I’m not necessarily a sports fan, and football isn’t something I know since it isn’t big here in Holland, I loved the sports element in this book. I found myself enjoying those moments Millie sat on the stands watching Ford and his team. And I was totally rooting along with them.

The romance between Millie and Ford, developed pretty fast. But it worked in this story. And I loved reading their story through both their point of views. Especially reading Ford’s POV made me swoon.

‘Coach’ was a wonderful read I devoured in a day. I just didn’t want to put it down and it made me want to read more sports romances. ( Lets see if I can get used to the Football terms, without thinking about soccer. :D)

About Devney Perry

Devney is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in Washington with her husband and two sons. Born and raised in Montana, she loves writing books set in her treasured home state. After working in the technology industry for nearly a decade, she abandoned conference calls and project schedules to enjoy a slower pace at home with her family.
