GoodreadsDo books have souls?
Anna Black has the perfect novel choice for her book club. She also has a sexy new neighbor who jumps at the opportunity to join fellow bookworms in discussing her pick for their summer read.
It’s lust at first sight and the marriage of two literary souls.
The charismatic owner of a new T-shirt store in Des Moines’s East Village, Eric Steinmann, has a confident air and an irresistible “mating dance.” He’s almost perfect … until he says the wrong word.
Will Anna and Eric write their own story? Or will their chemistry die when fiction turns into reality?
**Right Guy, Wrong Word was originally written as a short story, The Last Person. It’s been revised with significant changes to the original content and extended into a full-length novel.
When I signed up for an ARC of ‘Right Guy, Wrong Word’ I must admit the only thing I saw was the authors name. I’ve read two books by Jewel E. Ann so far and they where sooooo good. So without reading the book description I signed up. I later learned that this book was first a novella, and that the author made it into a full novel. Well, I don’t care.. I love the opportunity to read more books by this author!
In ‘Right Guy, Wrong Word’ we read the story of Anna Black and Eric Steinmann. Anna and Eric meet when they become neighbors and they immediately hit it off. There is this intense chemistry between them right from the start, they make each other laugh and the both like books. So when Eric joins the buildings book club where Anna has picked the current book it seems like a match made in heaven. But unfortunately things change when they start talking about the book.
Right from the start I knew this book was going to be different. Why? Well, because I really disliked the main character Anna almost from the very first page. That never happened to me in this intensity, and I was afraid this would mean I wouldn’t like the book. But there is something about Jewel’s writing that made me unable to put the book down and I kept on reading.
Luckily, I loved Eric’s character and I loved the book talk and how passionate both Anna and Eric where. This book definitely did not go the way I thought it was going to go and I was just hooked. Don’t get me wrong, I still didn’t really like Anna in the end, although she got a lot better, but I just loved Eric and how this book had all these twists.
And why didn’t I like Anna’s character? Well she just seemed so judgmental and unkind when Eric didn’t think the way she did. And I found her feelings so confusing honestly.
‘Right Guy, Wrong Word’ was a romance novel with definitely some steamy moments. There is a lot of lust between these two characters and it was fun to read. Eric’s character gave this book a lot of humor because he just always seemed to say the wrong thing.
I definitely can’t wait to read more books by this author.

I had already figured I’d pass on this one (not all of this author’s books are for me)… but your words have thoroughly convinced me.
I’m so glad you were able to enjoy it so much. That heroine though… not for me 🙂
Excellent honest review! xo
Thank you Natalie. I love Jewel E. Ann and this book was definitely a fun one. I’m just in awe by her writer. I never before loved a book in which I really didn’t like the main character all that much.
I have found I struggle with this authors heroines. I am glad other aspects to the story were redeemable for you. This author does handle spice though fairly well.
She definitely has a very unique way of writing her characters. In my opinion it makes them very ‘real’.
