"I'm not scared of you."He meets my gaze. "You should be."
All of England knows his name.
Saxon Priest.Savage. Ruthless.A man bent on all-out destruction.
His target? The royal family.
I’m not looking for a knight in shining armor when I approach him for a job—but I never anticipated how my heart might quicken when faced with London’s most notorious killer.
His eyes are cold. His mouth scarred and sneering when he dismisses me as fragile, weak.
He couldn’t be more wrong.
I have blood on my hands and hate in my heart—just like him.
But with England on the brink of war, Saxon is my last hope. And when he risks everything to save me, I succumb to the ice in his veins and the blistering heat that tethers us together.
He may be the devil in disguise but I’m Isla Quinn, and I killed the king.
Road To Fire is the first book in the Broken Crown series. Intrigue. Grit. Soul-wrenching love. This is not your average royal romance. Enter if you dare.

What I love most about social media, is the fact I get to talk to fellow readers, and find new book recommendations. So when I saw one of my Instagram friends talking very excitedly about the Broken Crown series, I knew I wanted to check this series out myself. So after reading a not so great read, I gave myself a little gift, and bought ‘Road To Fire’ and started reading immediately.

‘Road To Fire’ is definitely a bit different than my usual romance reads. It’s very dark, and at times even a bit brutal.. but boy did I love it. From the moment I started reading I was completely hooked. The story was so different, and I loved learning about this new life and these exciting characters. Since London is my favorite city in the whole world (not that I’ve seen that many, but I just love everything about London and always have), I enjoyed walking through this city. Even if this London is a lot darker.

The two main characters Saxon and Isla where amazing. I loved them. Saxon is this dark, tough guy who has seen and known a lot of cruelty. He never loved anyone, except his brothers. And he is very professional, and will never betray the crown. It’s in his blood to do what is necessary to keep the crown safe, even if that means killing people.

Isla has a big secret, and now has no job and so no money getting in. Determined to find a job to make sure her siblings get the best life, she tries to get a job at an unexpected place. And from the moment Saxon and Isla meet, there is this intense connection between them. And damn.. I loved them!

From the moment I started reading ‘Road To Fire’ I was completely hooked. I devoured each page, and simple wasn’t able to stop reading. This book is not only filled with an intense romance, the suspense keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat. There is a lot of mystery, and just a complete new world to get to know.

‘Road To Fire’ is definitely going on my favorite list. I loved everything about this book, and definitely need to read the other books in the series as well. In fact.. I’m starting book two right away!

About Maria Luis

Maria is a big fan of books, nature, dogs, and pretty things - not always in that order, though.

By day, Maria is a historian who specializes in 19th century New Orleans and 14th century London. What do the two eras have in common? Not much, except for disease, scandal, and crime - Maria's favorite historical topics. (For real, if you want to talk any of the above, just reach out!)

When not digging through the archives, Maria writes romances about strong men and the sassy women who sweep them off their feet.

Her favorite book will always be "Scandal in Spring" by Lisa Kleypas - she's worn the pages so much by re-reading it, but will never give it up.
