When I first read the synopsis of ‘Wild’, I found myself wanting to start reading this one immediately. I was lucky enough to be able to get my hands on this book through BookSirens, and I started reading as soon as I could.
‘Wild’ is the first book in a new series called Deep 8. And it’s definitely a book that starts right away. No slow introduction or working up to a big event. In ‘Wild’ we meet Security firm owner Sean. Sean is an ex-Navy SEAL who did a traumatic tour in Afghanistan. But, being the good guy he is, when he gets asked to extract a world renowned hacker he doesn’t hesitate one moment and soon he is on his way to Afghanistan again.
Jess Wilander is an Investigator reporter who travelled to Afghanistan to free her sister from an Afghan warlord. In order to free her sister Jess pretends to write an article on the warlord, but what she didn’t expect was to come face to face with her childhood best friend Sean. Sean ones was her whole world. But he left her many years ago and she never saw him again. But now in the middle of a war-torn country they meet again and they soon can’t deny their true feelings from each other.
‘Wild’ is definitely an action packed story that keeps you wondering what is about to happen. I enjoyed the connection between Sean and Jess and the story about how they met and grew up together. Their chemistry is definitely fun to read about and I was really rooting for them.
But somehow this story was missing something for me. I couldn’t really connect with the characters as much as I would have liked and I felt like we missed important information about the history between these characters. And although I definitely wouldn’t have been braver than Jess’s character.. I found the way she was around the warlord and the other bad people a little irritating. And the whole saving her sister from a warlord thing, was a little unbelievable to me.
The author’s way of writing was definitely very good. She had a very descriptive way of writing about the feelings these characters where experiencing and I definitely enjoyed that. And I could easily picture myself walking besides these characters in those Afghan deserts.
Although this book might not have worked for me as much as I’d like, it was a nice story and I would definitely love to read the second book in this series too.

This sounds like an exciting book but too bad that you couldn’t connect with the characters as well as you had hoped. Great review!
