Patience Callahan is twenty-five and fast becoming an old
maid. But she s spent most of her life dreaming over romantic European
literature and wants a dashing d Artagnan, not a bookish Bob Cratchit. Alas,
the Colorado town of Gilman is chock-full of Cratchit s without a d Artagnan in
sight. Peter Foote, the general store owner, has been in love with Patience for
seven years. But every time he s on the verge of proposing, she cuts him off;
he can only imagine on purpose. This time though, dadburn it, he s going to go
through with it. Ring in hand, he s moments from touching knee to floor, when
Patience pulls out a list of mail-order bride advertisements and declares her
intention to marry a backwoods stranger, on Christmas Day. Peter has two weeks
to change her mind.

My Review:
when I received this short Christmas themed novella I was super excited to
start reading. The book description really sounded fun and I dived in as soon
as I could.
Callahan. Peter has been in love with Patience for years, but unfortunately Patience
doesn’t seem to be interested in Peter at all. When Patience decides it’s time to
get in action and looks for a stranger to marry on Christmas Day in the bride
advertisements, Peter is determined to change Patience mind about him.
Although this book sounded fun, I didn’t really know what I could expect about
this one. But in the end I really did enjoy this read. It was short, it was
funny, had a Christmas theme and the characters where fun to read about. I
loved Peter’s character the most. I loved how determined he was. I didn’t get
it all of the time, but it was fun to read about.
really connect with her. I enjoyed reading about the ways Peter tried to make
Patience fall in love with him though, and it really made up for Patience.
At times it all felt a little rushed, but it didn’t bother me too much. If you’re
looking for a nice, short Christmas story this is definitely a book for you.

ever since reading Rosemary Sutcliff’s novels as a preteen. She wrote her first
