GoodreadsWe thought we were forever, but fate had other plans…
I never intended to fall in love.
This girl had goals and guys were an unwelcome distraction.
Until I met Garrick, my sophomore year of college, and he blasted through the walls I kept around my heart, tearing them down.
He knew what he wanted, and he wanted me .
Falling hard and fast, I experienced the rollercoaster highs and lows of first love.
Until life threw us a curveball, and everything flipped overnight.
Stuck in a limbo state, I was falling apart while trying to be strong for my boyfriend.
Then he entered my life. The hot, slightly older guy who looked like a cross between a tatted biker and a billionaire businessman.
Beck understood me, and our situation, in a way no one else could.
As a friend, he held me together and helped to piece back the shredded fragments of my heart.
I didn’t mean to fall in love with him—it just happened.
No one understands, least of all me.
Now my heart is split in two, and I don’t know what to do.
Is my first love my one true love? Or do I belong with the man who brought me to life?
When I first read the book description of ‘The One I Want’, I found myself immediately interested in this read. And since I enjoyed ‘Tell It To My Heart’ by Siobhan Davis, I figured I’d sign up for this book. Luckily enough I got send an ARC shortly after.
In ‘The One I Want’ we meet Stevie. Stevie is a strong character and I loved her right from the start. Stevie is determined to make something off herself before she will think of being in a relationship. She works two jobs, goes to college and tries to help her mom and nana out whenever they need her. But then she meets Garrick. From the moment Stevie and Garrick meet there is some intense chemistry between them. And Garrick is determined to win Stevie’s heart.
The relationship between Stevie and Garrick is intense. They love each other fiercely, but Stevie wants to make something of herself before she really wants to commit. Then fate happens and Stevie meets Beck. Beck is someone Stevie didn’t expect at all. And her feelings become very complex and heartbreaking.
This book was very unique and not what I expected. In the beginning of the book I figured things would go a certain way, I enjoyed the characters and the romance, but then things change completely and the book went very differently. I honestly didn’t know what to make off that. And it took me a little while before I was able to write this review. This might sound like a bad thing, but it wasn’t.
‘The One I Want’ was a very emotional read, packed with emotion and it just broke me a little bit. And even now, hours later, I’m still not completely sure what I think about this book. I loved Stevie’s character a lot though. She was fierce and hardworking, and I loved how she was so determined to make something of herself before giving everything to a guy.
Garrick and Beck are two totally different guys, and Stevie meets them in very different stages of her life. I loved them both actually. And I hated that all these characters got hurt in the end. Not all in the same way, bit still.
‘The One I Want’ was definitely a read I’ll keep thinking about for a while. But I’m honestly not sure if I loved this book or not. It was certainly impressive and very different than my usual reads.

Eek it’s a love triangle. My heart breaks every time and I’m staying away from this one. You are so brave! I’m in love with your honest review xoxo
LOL! Well.. I didn’t know before hand.. Normally I stay away from love triangles as well! This one was heartbreaking.. Still very good though!
I am about 80% done with the book.. and I don’t know how I feel either. I realize I do not like a love story unless one of the people in the love triangle is a definite no/not likable. I really liked Garriack and am upset what happened to him.
