My name is Amethyst DeMille and I’m in love with a vampire.Sounds complicated, doesn’t it?Yet the fact that he’s a sexy, centuries-old blood-drinking vampire isn’t what makes our relationship complicated. It’s because we live in the same house together, work at the same exclusive club together, and he happens to be my best friend with absolutely no idea how I feel about him.I mean, sure he’s probably seen me give him heart eyes more than once. Wolf is not only a deadly, charismatic vampire with great persuasion skills, he also happens to be built like a Nordic God, all solid muscle and chiseled bone structure and haunting eyes that I sometimes think tell me more than he wants me to know. He’s the type of guy most women find themselves falling for (and not just because they might end up his next meal). But despite the simmering sexual tension and yearning between us, I know there’s no way I’ll ever be able to tell him how I feel. After all, I’m a human and he’s a vampire and he’s told me more than once that those love stories never end well.Too bad my heart doesn’t know the difference.
***Nightwolf is a contemporary vampire romance with a friends-to-lovers twist. This book is a spinoff of The Dark Eyes Duet, featuring Wolf & Amethyst, but can be read as a total standalone. However, if you are reading it as a series, The Dark Eyes Duet (Black Sunshine and The Blood is Love) should be read first. It will release wide on November 8th and go into Amazon KU on November 10th.

I read a few books by Karina Halle a few years back and really loved them. I always planned on reading more of her books, but you know.. life happened and I just haven’t read any of her books since. But when I saw the cover of ‘Nightwolf’, I immediately got really curious about this read. And when I read that this book involved vampires, something I always enjoyed reading about, I pre-ordered a copy and started reading as soon as possible.

In ‘Nightwolf’ we read the story of Amethyst and Wolf. Amethyst has been in love with her best friend for years, but he has no clue. They have lived together, and worked together for years. And things seem to get more intense between them every day. But Amethyst is not sure Wolf feels the same for her. And what if telling him her feelings changes their friendship forever? To make things even more complicated, Wolf is a vampire, and vampires and humans relationships are never a good thing.

Let’s first start with that gorgeous cover.. It’s just so dark and gorgeous right? I really loved it. Not sure it necessarily fitted this story, but it is really beautiful and it definitely grabbed my attention from the start.

The romance and friendship between Amethyst and Wolf was something I loved from the start. They are a very intense couple, and I’m not sure their feelings for each other was ever a secret for anyone around them. Their chemistry is definitely something that is flying of the pages from the start. And when they finally gave in to their feelings, it was definitely very intense and I loved it. Some moments where a bit too much for my taste, but I can definitely get past that because they were just so loveable.

The whole vampire/ human part was something I really enjoyed as well. I’ve read a lot of stories about vampires, and Karina Halle’s take on it sure was fun. I also loved how this book was written through both main characters point of views. This way we really got to know these characters and it really was fun.

Though romantic, this book was also a bit heartbreaking. I can’t really explain why without spoiling the story, but boy.. it really made me tear up at times. And at times I could not see how things would be able to get better. There was also something about this story I didn’t get. The whole demon nightmare bit. This part of the story felt really unfinished and a bit irrelevant in the end. It made this book really creepy in the beginning, and in the end we never really got any answers to this part of the book.

I’ve been following Karina Halle on social media for years, and I’ve read that she has had a horrible year with losing two close family members. She wrote this book after these events occurred, and I was really amazed by how she was able to write such an intense, sad but also beautiful story. I’m determined to read more books by this author for sure. Especially in this paranormal genre.
