Forever After (Vampire Reality Show #1)

I used to love stories about vampires. But recently I haven’t read many fantasy or paranormal novels. So when I saw the cover of ‘Forever After’, and read the book description, I really was curious about this book. When I got approved to read it, I was really excited and started reading as soon as ...KEEP READING »

Broken Dawn (Immortal Guardians, #10)

Broken Dawn (Immortal Guardians, #10)

Since I finally caught up on my reading, I felt it was time to start reading books from my very long TBR. When I started to look through my list, my eye caught the cover of ‘Broken Dawn’. I never read a book by Dianne Duvall before, and I was a little anxious about this being book ten in the series, but I read some great stuff about this book so I decided to start reading.

In ‘Broken Dawn’ we meet Nick Belanger. Nick has been attracted to his neighbor for years now. Kayla is a single mom, and absolutely gorgeous. But Nick knows he has to stay away from her. Nick is an immortal warrior, fighting vampires for a living. What could he give Kayla? So he stays away.

Kayla has been watching her handsome neighbor for awhile now. He is so handsome and kind, but he never seems to want to be around her for long. But when Kayla’s life is in danger, Nick can’t stay away any longer.

Although this book is book 10 in the series, I can easily be read as a standalone. Yes, I could tell some of these side characters had a story of their own and there seems to be a lot more going on in this world then I found out through this read. But it didn’t bother me at all. It only made me curious to read the previous books to be honest. And that is a plus.

The paranormal aspect of this book was definitely fun. The author explains the ‘gifts’ of these immortals, so I never felt like I missed out on something. I loved the idea of these Immortal Guardians, and I really like to figure out more about this world.

The romance between Nick and Kayla feels a bit sudden. But both these characters have been attracted to each other from a distance for years. So it kind of fitted the story. And I loved their chemistry right from the start.

I did feel like the major ‘event’ in this book wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. Which made this book more of a Romance, than a suspense, but overall I definitely enjoyed this read and I look forward to reading more books in this series.

The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood and Ash, #3)

After absolutely devouring the first two books in the From Blood and Ash series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. So I pre-ordered the eBook, and when it arrived on my Kindle I started reading immediately. And don’t you just love this book cover?

In ‘The Crown of Gilded Bones’ the story of Poppy and Casteel continues. The newlyweds have just arrived to Atlantia and their lives got a lot more complicated. Poppy is supposedly the new Queen of Flesh and Fire and there are a lot of people trying to stop her. Many secrets are being revealed and Poppy and Casteel find themselves in hard situations more than ever.

This book continues right where ‘A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire’ ends. I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to remember all the details since I read the second book a few months ago, but I shouldn’t have worried. From the moment I started reading I got pulled right back into this story and it kept me sitting on the edge of my seat.

Like we are used to with Jennifer’s books, this book is packed with sizzling romance and plenty of sexy moments. But above all this book had a lot of action, mystery and some phenomenal world building. There is a lot revealed, but we also get a lot of new possibilities and mystery. There are gods, more strange creatures and some new loveable characters.

Casteel definitely was my favorite character in this book. I loved how protective, mysterious and loving he was towards Poppy. Yes, he is kind of evil and twisted but I loved that about him. And those intimate moments between him and Poppy definitely made me swoon.

‘The Crown of Gilded Bones’ was another amazing read. I didn’t expect this book to not be the last one though. So I was both happy and frustrated when I finished reading. Happy, since I can’t get enough of these two characters, and frustrated because we still don’t know how things will work out for the two of them. Sigh.. Another great book and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Wicked (A Wicked Trilogy, #1)

Wicked (A Wicked Trilogy, #1)

I’ve been wanting to read ‘Wicked’ for a few years now. Somehow I just never got to it. I’ve been loving Jennifer’s books for some time now, and ever since I saw that ‘Wicked’ was being made into a movie, I was determined to start reading this book soon. Well, I finally got to it.

In ‘Wicked’ we meet twenty two year old Ivy. Ivy is kind of a loner ever since she lost her adoptive parents and boyfriend a few years ago. After already having lost her birth parents many years ago, Ivy simple cannot lose any more people. So she does her job of killing Fae at night, and she goes to college during the day. Ivy lost everything to the Fae, so killing them is definitely something she loves. One day  Ivy meets Ren, a very handsome fellow Fae hunter who transferred to New Orleans. And Ren is determined to break through Ivy’s walls and make her his.

‘Wicked’ was from the start at book I really enjoyed. I enjoyed getting to know the two main characters Ivy and Ren. And their chemistry was definitely flying of the pages. I loved how Ren started crumbling those walls Ivy put up right from the start. And who could blame Ivy?! Ren was definitely my favorite character of this book. Charming, funny, handsome, smart, brave and hardworking.. what’s not to love about him?!

Ivy’s little friend Tink was also one of the things I loved most about this book. He was just so damn funny. And I loved how he was a Harry Potter fan, and we got to read some very funny Harry Potter anecdotes.

To be honest, it took me a little while to understand the world that Wicked was set in. Those Fae and the Order.. The fact that I loved the characters and their chemistry so much made me love this book, but the Fae confused me a little. Luckily everything started working for me more and more the further I got in the book and in the end I was hooked.

‘Wicked’ was definitely a fun, romantic and exciting read that makes me want for more. And since the end of this book is kind of a cliffhanger, I really have to read the next book in this trilogy fast.

Bound by Forever (True Immortality, #3)

I’ve been a huge fan of S. Young, a.k.a. Samantha Young for a long time now. And I’ve been on her ARC team for a while now too. So when one of her books is about to come out, I get all excited! When I started reading the True Immortality series in April of last year, I was immediately hooked and just knew this was going to be one of my favorite series. ‘Bound By Forever’ is the third book in this amazing paranormal romance series, but can be read as a standalone, and let me tell you.. it is soooo good!

In ‘Bound By Forever’ we meet Niamh. Niamh is one of seven fae children born into the human world with the ability to open the gate to Faerie. Yes, she is fae.. But she was born from a human mother and has always wanted the normal things in life: love, friendship.. peace. But she is definitely not ‘normal’. Her life has been all about making sure the other Faerie’s stay on the right path and don’t open the gate. But after her brother was murdered, she has trouble staying under the radar of her enemies. Without Niamh’s knowledge, werewolf Kiyo has been giving the task to keep Niamh save from her enemies.. and especially herself.

Kiyo has been a werewolf for many years and he is unlike any of his kind. Kiyo is cursed with immortality and has always been on his own. He is definitely one you would call cold. He has known all kinds of hurt and he promised himself never to ‘feel’ much again. And Kiyo definitely exceeds at that.. Until he meets Niamh. Niamh is almost to good! She is kind, even if people don’t really deserve it. And from the moment Niamh and Kiyo meet there is a connection between the two of them. And unfortunately a lot of drama too.

‘Bound By Forever’ was definitely another great book by S. Young. From the moment I started reading, I was completely hooked to the story and the characters. The chemistry between Niamh and Kiyo is flying of the pages, and I just loved those two so much. They are very different. While Niamh can easily admit to herself she is attracted to Kiyo. Kiyo tries his hardest to be cold and unkind to Niamh. And he definitely tries to convince himself he doesn’t feel anything for the fae except a sense of duty. I loved reading this book through both Niamh and Kiyo’s point of view.

Although the romance was really bloody good, and made me swoon from the beginning till the very end, their was also a lot of suspenseful moments that kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. Their where several moments throughout this read I found myself unable to do anything but keep on reading just so I would know what was going to happen next.

The paranormal aspects in this series is also something I love. I love the paranormal stuff, but especially when you can almost imagine it to be something real. And in this series I can easily imagine myself walking besides the characters. (Definitely not as cool as these characters though! LOL!)

What I also loved was seeing and hearing little bits about the characters from the previous two books. These characters are all connected, but you can definitely still read this book as a standalone.

I for one can’t wait to read the next book in this series! ‘Bound By Forever’ is definitely going on my Favorite Reads of 2020 list!
