Every month when I’m picking books for the poll on my book club, it’s getting harder. There are just so many great books out there. But in the end we always find a good one. This month we choice ‘Penthouse Prince’ and I was excited to start reading.
In ‘Penthouse Prince’ we meet Lex. Lex moved away from his hometown ten years ago, leaving his high school girlfriend and his mom behind to make it in the big city. Now ten years later Lex has gotten his wish. He has a successful business and a life many are jealous of. And.. he has a two year old daughter who he is raising all on his own. When his mom gets sick, Lex decides to move back home. And soon Lex also meets his ex-girlfriend Corrigan again, and she is as pretty and kind as always. Except he broke her heart all those years ago and wants to stay as far away from him as possible.
Well.. where to start with this one. The characters Lex and Corrigan where definitely nice to get to know. They were really kind and obviously had a lot of chemistry. Corrigan is a teacher and I loved how she was with Lex’s daughter. Lex was also definitely a kind guy, but somehow to me he just didn’t seem to be the hardworking rich guy he supposedly was. He rarely really ‘worked’ in this book.
The romance between Lex and Corrigan was sweet and definitely had its swooning moments but I also felt like it wasn’t developed as much as I would have liked. I found Lex very arrogant in the way he just wanted to forget the way he broke Corrigan heart. On the other hand I found the way they started things again after all those years, a little odd. They hadn’t spoken in ten years, and bam things almost seemed ‘normal’ again.
But what really bothered me was the way Lex’s mom was supposedly dying, and he didn’t spend a lot of time with her at all. They moved to be closer to her, and he rarely went to visit her. This just didn’t seem to fit the story in my opinion. Especially since Lex’s mom was the reason he gave up everything and moved back home.
But I did enjoy this read, since it was sweet and fun. I read it in only two days and I kept wondering what was going to happen next. In the end this book just missed a little depth.

Like we talked about in the Facebook group, I though this one was fun and entertaining but definitely not as emotional as some of our other picks. I enjoyed the characters but like you mentioned, there wasn’t a lot of depth. But I honestly didn’t hold that against the book because it was fun and entertaining and sometimes that’s enough! 🙂
This definitely was a fun and entertaining read. I’m glad you had a good time reading it Tanya. 😉
