Academy
award–winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon invites you
into her world, where she infuses the southern style, parties, and traditions
she loves with contemporary flair and charm.

Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said that a combination of
beauty and strength made southern women “whiskey in a teacup.” We may be
delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside we’re strong and
fiery.

Reese’s southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the
joys of southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the
South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of
Dorothea’s fried chicken. It’s reflected in how she entertains, decorates her
home, and makes holidays special for her kids—not to mention how she talks,
dances, and does her hair (in these pages, you will learn Reese’s fail-proof,
only slightly insane hot-roller technique). Reese loves sharing Dorothea’s most
delicious recipes as well as her favorite southern traditions, from midnight
barn parties to backyard bridal showers, magical Christmas mornings to
rollicking honky-tonks.

It’s easy to bring a little bit of Reese’s world into your home, no matter where
you live. After all, there’s a southern side to every place in the world,
right?

My Review:

I have
been a Reese Witherspoon fan for years. Not necessarily because of her movies,
I haven’t seen them all (but ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ is one of my favorite movies)
but because I just love how strong she always seems to be. I love her
enthusiasm and the way she really seems so down to earth and hardworking. When
Reese started her own book club I knew I was right with loving her. So when ‘Whiskey
In A Teacup’ was announced to come out, I pre-ordered a copy right away.
The first
thing to be said about this book is that it’s just so pretty. I love looking at
it and it has been on my living room table since the day it arrived. Yes, that
pretty! It’s pink, but fun pink and it invites you to open it up. Not only the
cover of this book is pretty, the inside is very pretty too. This book is
filled with beautiful pictures and the overall theme is just gorgeous. It looks
the way Reese’s clothing line Draper James seems to look when I see those
pictures. And since shipping Draper James clothes here is just to expensive,
being able to browse through this book makes everything better.
In ‘Whiskey
In A Teacup’ Reese talks about her life as a Southern girl. She talks about her
grandma, and how growing up in the South has made her who she is today. She also
tells us about Southern customs. And for a girl from the Netherlands it was
really fun to read about this stuff. It still sounds surreal to me, since live
here is so different but I loved reading about it.
There are
also several recipes in this book. And a view of them are definitely on my
to-be-cooked list. The Cheddar Biscuits, Dorothea’s Sun Tea, John’s BBQ Sauce,
Mud Pie Trifle I want to try them all. I’m not sure every ingredient is available
here, but it’s definitely something I’m going to try. The recipes look pretty
easy, which is another plus about this book.
Another great thing is that there is a Metric Conversion Charts at the
back. Very handy!!
If you ask
me ‘Whiskey In A Teacup’ is a perfect relaxing read for a Sunday afternoon. Put
on the Spotify playlists from the book and life is complete. And as a Reese
Witherspoon fan, this book makes me love her even more.
