From the multi-award- winning author of The Apothecary’s
Daughter, The House in Quill Court is a gorgeously evocative Regency novel
bursting with historical flavour and characters you won’t forget. If you love
Philippa Gregory and Joanne Harris, you will adore Charlotte Betts.

1813. Venetia Lovell lives by the sea in Kent with her
pretty, frivolous mother and idle younger brother.
Venetia’s father, Theo, is an interior decorator to the
rich and frequently travels away from home, leaving his sensible and artistic
daughter to look after the family. Venetia designs paper hangings and she and
her father often daydream about having an imaginary shop where they would
display the highest quality furniture, fabrics and art to his clients.
When a handsome but antagonistic stranger, Jack
Chamberlaine, arrives at the Lovell’s cottage just before Christmas bringing
terrible news, Venetia’s world is turned upside-down and the family have no
option but to move to London, to the House in Quill Court and begin a new life.
Here, Venetia’s courage and creativity are tested to breaking point, and she
discovers a love far greater than she could have ever imagined . . .

My Review:

Last year I read my first Charlotte Betts novel ‘The Chateau on the Lake’. I really loved that book. So when I was approached to
read ‘The House in Quill Court’, I knew I just had to read this book too.
‘The House in Quill Court’ is yet another great read by
Charlotte Betts. I love reading historical novels, and this one was definitely
a good one. Set in Regency England, I was yet again swept back in time and
found myself wondering around in a pretty dress with these characters. Although
the beginning was a little slow, I found myself devouring this read because I
just knew Charlotte Betts would have something good in store for us. And she
really did.
What I loved most of all in ‘The Chateau on the Lake’ was
the way that book wasn’t your average romance novel. No! There was some romance
but it wasn’t the main storyline of the book. And the same goes for ‘The House
in Quill Court’. I love that there is more too this book than just some
romance.
And the characters were lovely to read about. I especially
loved the way this book told the story of Venetia, but also her maid Kitty. It
was just so much fun to get to know these characters. Especially those moments
between Venetia and Jack Chamberlaine.
Sigh..
Although some parts of this book were a little predictable,
the view twists definitely were enough for me to keep being hooked to the
pages. If you ask me, Charlotte Betts did another great job in writing this
book. ‘The House in Quill Court’ really takes you back to Regency England and I
loved every single page of this book.
