There was only one woman who could set me free. But I would rather set myself on fire than ask Sloane Walton for anything.

Lucian Rollins is a lean, mean vengeance-seeking mogul. On a quest to erase his father’s mark on the family name, he spends every waking minute pulling strings and building an indestructible empire. The more money and power he amasses, the safer he is from threats.

Except when it comes to the feisty small-town librarian that keeps him up at night…

Sloane Walton is a spitfire determined to carry on her father’s quest for justice. She’ll do that just as soon as she figures out exactly what the man she hates did to—or for—her family. Bonded by an old, dark secret from the past and the dislike they now share for each other, Sloane trusts Lucian about as far as she can throw his designer-suited body.

When bickering accidentally turns to foreplay, these two find themselves not quite regretting their steamy one-night stand. Once those flames are fanned, it seems impossible to put them out again. But with Sloane ready to start a family and Lucian refusing to even consider the idea of marriage and kids, these enemies-to-lovers are stuck at an impasse.

Broken men break women. It’s what Lucian believes, what he’s witnessed, and he’s not going to take that chance with Sloane. He’d rather live a life of solitude than put her in danger. But he learns the hard way that leaving her means leaving her unprotected from other threats.
It’s the second time he’s ruthlessly cut her out of his life. There’s no way she’s going to give him a third chance. He’s just going to have to make one for himself.

After reading the first two books in the Knockemout series, which I both loved, I couldn’t wait to start reading the last book in the series. We got to read a little bit about Lucian and Sloan throughout the other books, and I was so curious to read their story. So when I got the opportunity I dived right in.

In ‘Things We Left Behind’ we read the story of Lucian and Sloan. They grew up living next door to each other. Lucian, the popular handsome sports guy and Sloan the geeky reader. But nothing is as it seems. And when one horrific event changes everything, they grow up disliking each. Now Lucian is a very rich workaholic who only visits Knockemout to visit his two best friends, Knox and Nash Morgan. And Sloan runs the towns successful library and is looking to start a family. Their lives couldn’t be more different. And every time Lucian and Sloan meet, it’s clear that there is a lot of anger between them.

But behind that anger there is a story. A story Lucian and Sloan never shared with anyone except their families. They can’t stand to be close to one another, and they also can’t seem to stay away. And when Sloan decides it’s time to start a family, Lucian realizes he can’t hide his true feelings forever.

From the moment I started reading ‘Things We Left Behind’ I was completely hooked. I knew I was going to love Lucian and Sloan’s story, and I definitely did. The way these two characters seemed to hate each other, while at the same time having this amazing chemistry. It was intense and I loved every minute of it.

I loved the mystery of Lucian’s character. He wasn’t the kindest, downright horrible at times, but he had something that made me love him. And I was so curious about what drove him and why he did the things he did. I definitely couldn’t get enough of him.

And then there was Sloan. Sloan is the girl I wish I could be! She is a librarian and is surrounded by books all the time. She organizes book signings and everything. I mean who wouldn’t want to be her? And then there is the way she stood up to Lucian. I think I might have a girl crush!

‘Things We Left Behind’ was an amazing enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romance I devoured. This book might even top the first book of the series. I loved everything about it and was honestly disappointed when I finished. I could have easily read about these two a lot longer.
