Nash Morgan was always known as the good Morgan brother, with a smile and a wink for everyone. But now, this chief of police is recovering from being shot and his Southern charm has been overshadowed by panic attacks and nightmares. He feels like a broody shell of the man he once was. Nash isn’t about to let anyone in his life know he’s struggling. But his new next-door neighbor, smart and sexy Lina, sees his shadows. As a rule, she’s not a fan of physical contact unless she initiates it, but for some reason Nash’s touch is different. He feels it too. The physical connection between them is incendiary, grounding him and making her wonder if exploring it is worth the risk.

Too bad Lina’s got secrets of her own, and if Nash finds out the real reason she’s in town, he’ll never forgive her. Besides, she doesn’t do relationships. Ever. A hot, short-term fling with a local cop? Absolutely. Sign her up. A relationship with a man who expects her to plant roots? No freaking way. Once she gets what she’s after, she has no intention of sticking around. But Knockemout has a way of getting under people’s skin. And once Nash decides to make Lina his, he’s not about to be dissuaded…even if it means facing the danger that nearly killed him.

After I read ‘Things We Never Got Over’ a few weeks ago, and loved it, I knew I wanted to read the other books in the series as well. So since I’ve been really good about my reading schedule these last few weeks, I had the time to pick another book of my TBR. Just like with the first book, I had ‘Things We Hide From the Light’ signed by the author herself, so I was even more excited to start reading.

‘Things We Hide From the Light’ is the second standalone in the Knockemout series. You can definitely read it as a standalone, but I’m glad I read the books in order, because I think it made this book even more fun. And fun it sure was!

After reading about the oldest Morgan brother in book one, this book is about the youngest brother Nash. Nash Morgan is a police chief in the small town of Knockemout. All he ever wanted to do is make a difference and do good. And this seemed to be working for him, until he got shot twice and gets badly injured. Now all he wants to do is be alone, and forget about everything. But this is not easily done in a town as small as Knockemout, and being surrounded by nosy people.

Not to forget the gorgeous smart-mouthed Lina Solavita, who is only supposed to be in the small town for a few weeks. From the moment Nash and Lina meet there is something between them. But both aren’t in a place to start something serious. Especially since Lina gets anxious just thinking about relationships and getting close to someone. But the more time Nash and Lina spend together, the harder it gets to deny that there is something special between them. Unfortunately life gets pretty messy in Knockemout, especially when the guy who shot Nash, seems to be looking to finish what he started.

‘Things We Hide From the Light’ was definitely a very fun read I really enjoyed. From the moment I started reading about Nash, I wanted to learn more about him. What I loved the most was how he was the good guy everyone thought would have ended up being married with kids a long time ago. And that was definitely what he wanted out of life, but things just didn’t end up going that way. Lina was afraid of getting closer to someone, and never stayed in one place long. Nash changed that for her. And I loved that.

The setting of Knockemout was great. I love a small town vibe, and this little town was great. I loved getting to know more of the characters and seeing the characters of the first book back. The romance was swoonworthy and I didn’t want to stop reading. It was definitely a good time getting back to Knockemout. And you know what.. I can’t wait to read Lucien’s story. Book three is going to be read real soon!
