We used to be best friends. Now we’re snowed in together.
There are probably worse things than being stuck in a remote cabin with the rugged-yet-grumpy forest ranger who saved my life in a blizzard. Bear maulings, for example, though I might prefer that to eating breakfast with Gideon Bell, the guy who nearly ruined my life when we were kids.
It was twenty years ago. We haven’t spoken since. Our families still hate each other, and our lives are completely different. I’m not sure we’ve got anything in common besides childhood memories.
But when it’s just the two of us for a couple of weeks, none of that really matters.
What matters is the way Gideon grumbles, but makes my tea exactly the way I like it. What matters is how he always gives me the spot on the couch closest to the fireplace. What matters is how he looks at me when he thinks I’m not paying attention.
And those childhood memories? He’s in all my favorites.
Up here, in the cabin, it’s easy to look past all that because it feels so good to kiss him. It’s easy to spend a wild night in front of the fireplace and wake up still wrapped together. But back in the real world, where everything that drove us apart is still alive and kicking? It’s a lot harder.
Can Gideon and I fix what broke twenty years ago, or does what happens in the cabin have to stay in the cabin?
After reading some previous books by Roxie Noir, and loving them I was really excited to start reading ‘The Two Week Roommate’. So I signed up for an ARC, and was lucky enough to get picked. And when it was time for me to start reading, I dived right in.
In ‘Two Week Roommate’ we meet Gideon and Andy. They where best friends when they where kids. But Andy moved away with her family and never saw Gideon again. Now, more than twenty years later, they meet again unexpectedly. And what’s even more unexpected, is that they end up being snowed in together. After years of not seeing each other there is a lot of baggage between them and now they are forced to spend time together. And soon they both can’t deny there is a lot of chemistry between them, and being stuck together isn’t so bad anymore. But outside the cabin, life is very complicated, especially since Gideon and Andy are so different.
‘The Two Week Roommate’ was such a different book than I first anticipated. A romance about a grumpy handsome guy, and a very cheerful girl who get stuck together in a snow surrounded cabin? Sounds pretty exciting and really my kind of story. And yes, there was a very fun romance going on. From the moment we meet Gideon and Andy, I enjoyed getting to know them better. The chemistry between them was exciting and I loved how they where total opposites in a lot of ways.
What I didn’t expect was the religious extremism that Gideon grew up in. This book is set when Gideon is in his thirties and he isn’t very religious himself, but his youth and everything that his parents put in his head when he was a kid is still going around in his head. For one he is still a virgin, not that he necessarily wanted to stay one, but life just ended up going that direction. And secondly, he finds himself having a hard time being as ‘wild’ and free as Andy. Although it is clear that Gideon is nothing like his parents, I must admit that I didn’t enjoy this part of the book. Not that it was written in a bad way, not at all, I just didn’t love it.
Gideon and Andy together where fun, and we get some fun sexy moments between them. But in the end I just didn’t love this book as much as I’d hoped. Gideon’s innocence was sweet, and I enjoyed how Andy was so open and playful towards him. But there was just something missing for me.
Overall I enjoyed ‘The Two Week Roommate’ but unfortunately I didn’t love it. I think the whole religious aspect overshadowed the good parts for me.

This one has such a promising premise. It’s too bad the religious aspect overshadowed what could have been a fun romance. 🙁
This book definitely had a lot of aspects that made me wish this book worked for me. But although, it was fun.. the thing I remember the most now is the religious bit.
I think if authors are going to put religious aspects and purity culture things it needs to be done very well and handled super delicately. But quite a few just don’t handle it well. So, I definitely feel you on struggling with it. Unless you are raised in that environment and understand it, it’s very hard to write it in fiction to where it doesn’t overshadow everything. (I only say this because I was raised and live a religious lifestyle, so I understand more than most the nuances) Hope your next read is much more better for you.
So true my friend. In this case, for me, it just didn’t work.
