He is my ruin.My complete and utter devastation.
Loyalty or death.I make my choice in a palace of flames, and wake to total darkness . . .
And at his mercy.
Calloused hands bring hell to my door and his velvet voice spews only poison.
“A traitor to the queen,” he calls me, and though I don’t know his name, it’s clear that he’s no Prince Charming.
Monster.Villain.A man who demands that I take it all—and submit.
But no one will ever mistake me for a damsel in distress.
He wants me on my knees, but it won’t be me who breaks.
Only, falling for the most hated man in England was not the plan.
If war is hell, then love is carnage, and the blood that’s spilled belongs to us both.

After absolutely devouring ‘Road To Fire’, book one in the Broken Crown series, I knew I wanted to read more books by Maria Luis. So when I found a free moment on my reading schedule.. or better yet.. when I made the time.. started reading right away.

In ‘Sound of Madness’ we read the story of Damien and Rowena. And although this is a different couple than the two main characters in the previous book, these books definitely need to be read in order. And ‘Sound of Madness’ continues right where the first book ends. And boy did it keep me hooked again. Damien and Rowena are enemies at first. They are definitely not supposed to be together, but at the same time they can’t possible be stay away from each other.

This is such a ‘different’ series. It’s so dark, so twisty.. but at the same time so good and so addicting. And I simple can’t stop reading this series. The chemistry between Damien and Rowena is amazing. And I was so curious to read their story I easily lost sleep over it.

Did I love this book as much as the first one? No, but it really came pretty close to it.

About Maria Luis

Maria is a big fan of books, nature, dogs, and pretty things - not always in that order, though.

By day, Maria is a historian who specializes in 19th century New Orleans and 14th century London. What do the two eras have in common? Not much, except for disease, scandal, and crime - Maria's favorite historical topics. (For real, if you want to talk any of the above, just reach out!)

When not digging through the archives, Maria writes romances about strong men and the sassy women who sweep them off their feet.

Her favorite book will always be "Scandal in Spring" by Lisa Kleypas - she's worn the pages so much by re-reading it, but will never give it up.
