New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley brings a new novel in her River Rain series… From a very young age, Chloe Pierce was trained to look after the ones she loved. And she was trained by the best. But when the man who looked after her was no longer there, Chloe is cast adrift—just as the very foundation of her life crumbled to pieces. Then she runs into tall, lanky, unpretentious Judge Oakley, her exact opposite. She shops. He hikes. She drinks pink ladies. He drinks beer. She’s a city girl. He’s a mountain guy. Obviously, this means they have a blowout fight upon meeting. Their second encounter doesn’t go a lot better. Judge is loving the challenge. Chloe is everything he doesn’t want in a woman, but he can’t stop finding ways to spend time with her. He knows she’s dealing with loss and change. He just doesn’t know how deep that goes. Or how ingrained it is for Chloe to care for those who have a place in her heart, how hard it will be to trust anyone to look after her… And how much harder it is when it’s his turn.

When I read the book description of ‘Chasing Serenity’, I knew this was a book I wanted to read. I never read a book by Kristen Ashley before, but I had heard some great stuff about her writing so I was excited when I received an ARC.

In ‘Chasing Serenity’ we meet Chloe. Chloe grew up being the oldest kid to famous parents. She was taught to take care of the people she loved. And she has done that since she was a kid. Chloe knows what she wants in life. And she has led a mostly privileged life. But then she meets Judge Oakley. Judge couldn’t be more different. And from the moment Chloe and Judge meet they can’t deny the chemistry between them.

Chloe’s character wasn’t one I loved to be honest. I hoped it was only in the beginning, as I just didn’t really know her yet. But even in the end I just didn’t get her at all. Chloe was very into fashion, and so we got to read what she was wearing in a lot of detail every time. This definitely was a bit unnecessary to me. I found myself skipping those moments in the end.

The romance between Chloe and Judge was fun, but I didn’t always feel their chemistry to be honest. I did love the way Judge was determined to make Chloe his. He definitely didn’t give up easy and he was very charming for sure.

Unfortunately, although this book definitely had his charms, I didn’t love it as much as I’d hoped.
