Cinder,
the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the
bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though
if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out
there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave
danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street
fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is
loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her.
As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet
Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen
Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband,
her king, her prisoner.

My Review:

I’m very
behind on the hype regarding the Lunar Chronicles. I’ve read ‘Cinder’, book 1
in December of 2015 and completely loved it. Somehow I haven’t been able to
read the next books in this series in 2016. And since it’s now a new year, I
made it my priority to read more books I’ve been wanting to read for what seems
like forever. So now I finally started reading ‘Scarlet’.

In
‘Scarlet’ we get to read about how Cinder is doing, right from the moment the
first book ended. But we also meet a new character Scarlet. Scarlet’s
grandmother has been missing for two weeks, and when the police tells Scarlet
they think she just ran away, Scarlet is determined to find her grandmother
herself. With the help from street fighter Wolf, Scarlet will do anything to
find and save her grandmother.

Yet again
I’m totally baffled. Why on earth does it take me so long to read this series?
I loved ‘Cinder’, and I really also loved ‘Scarlet’. Not only is this book very
unique, fun and thrilling.. The characters are so easy to love. Well.. except
Queen Levana off course. She is really easy to hate.

Marissa
Meyer has a very fun and easy way of pulling her readers inside her Lunar
world. From the moment I started reading ‘Scarlet’ I didn’t want to stop. There
is so much going on inside this book. There are these hints of the old
fairytale which I really enjoyed. The young woman with the red hoodie, the
grandmother and the wolf. How amazing that the author was able to create this
characters with those famous names, and was still able to create a totally
unique story? I loved turning every single page and finding out something new.

There
wasn’t one thing about this book I didn’t like. I love the futuristic part
about this book. The spaceships and the whole cyborg stuff. It’s exciting to
read about and I love it. I can’t wait to find out what’s next in this series.

On the one
hand, I really don’t get why I didn’t read these books before. But on the other
hand I’m happy that I still have those two other books to look forward to. And
‘Heartless’ off course. My new goal is to read this series this year. It’s
taken me long enough!
