Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in a fast-paced new novel
from #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb.

Nature versus nurture…

The shots came quickly, silently, and with deadly accuracy. Within seconds,
three people were dead at Central Park’s ice skating rink. The victims: a
talented young skater, a doctor, and a teacher. As random as random can be.

Eve Dallas has seen a lot of killers during her time with the NYPSD, but never
one like this. After reviewing security videos, it becomes clear that the
victims were killed by a sniper firing a tactical laser rifle, who could have
been miles away when the trigger was pulled. And though the locations where the
shooter could have set up seem endless, the list of people with that particular
skill set is finite: police, military, professional killer.

Eve’s husband, Roarke, has unlimited resources—and genius—at his disposal. And
when his computer program leads Eve to the location of the sniper, she learns a
shocking fact: There were two—one older, one younger. Someone is being trained
by an expert in the science of killing, and they have an agenda. Central Park
was just a warm-up. And as another sniper attack shakes the city to its core,
Eve realizes that though we’re all shaped by the people around us, there are
those who are just born evil…

My Review:

Ever since I read my first J.D. Robb novel almost two
years ago, I’ve been totally hooked to the In Death series. I love crime novels
with a bit of romance and this series is a great example of that. So when I
received this new book in the series I was super excited to start reading.
Just like in the other books I read in this series, I
really enjoyed reading about Lieutenant Eve Dallas, and her husband Roarke. In
this book we had a LDSK, a long distance serial killer, and the killer is
working fast. Before long there are several people killed, and Eve realizes the
killer must be a professional. Together with Roarke, and her partner Detective
Peabody, Eve soon is in a race against the clock.
I really loved the beginning of ‘Apprentice in Death’.
Reading a little from the killer’s point of view was definitely very interesting
and it gave something extra to this book. The story still kept it’s mystery,
which is something I’m always a little scared of missing when I read something
from the killers point of view. But J.D. Robb definitely did a great job with
this.
But other than that I found ‘Apprentice in Death’ not as
good as the previous ones. Somehow I just couldn’t get into the story, and I
found the pace a little too slow and the story a little too predictable. There
are still some great Eve and Roarke scenes, but I missed the fun conversations
between Eve and Peabody. Something I really love in the previous books.
I think the part that made me not really love this book
was the way we soon find out who the killer is. We don’t have all the details
of course, but we do know a lot early on. I didn’t really like that. But
thankfully J.D. Robb is always capable of keeping you interested till the end.
‘Apprentice in Death’ was definitely a fun read, but I
look forward to the next one in the In Death series.

About the Author:

Nora Roberts was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. She
began writing when a blizzard in February 1979 kept her in her hilltop home
with a three and six year old for nearly a week of canceled kindergarten and
dwindling chocolate supplies.

During the now-famous blizzard, she pulled out a pencil and notebook and began
to write a story for her own entertainment. From the first page, she knew it
was what she was meant to do.

Nora Roberts is now the number one New York Times bestseller of more than
200 novels. With over 450 million copies of her books in print, she is
indisputably one of the most celebrated and popular writers in the world.

Nora Roberts published her first novel using the
pseudonym J.D. Robb in 1995, introducing to readers the tough as nails but
emotionally damaged homicide cop Eve Dallas and billionaire Irish rogue,
Roarke.

With the In Death series, Robb has become one of the biggest thriller writers
on earth, with each new novel reaching number one on bestseller charts the
world over.
