It’s springtime and Whitstable is emerging from
hibernation.

While neither the restaurant nor detective agency is too
busy, Pearl resolves to spend some time at the family allotment. But her best
friend, Nathan, has persuaded one of his favourite actresses to open the May
Day festivities at Whitstable Castle and involves Pearl in his plans.
Like Pearl, Faye Marlowe is a Whitstable native, but
having left the town more than two decades ago, the star has been living in the
South of France since her agent’s phone stopped ringing. Charming but
‘sensitive’, she arrives with a small entourage and though her presence in the
town causes a stir Pearl’s mother Dolly remains unimpressed, choosing to
remember Faye Marlow when she was plain old Frankie Murray, the daughter of a
local whelk merchant.
Nathan soon realises he has made a mistake with this
invitation and his doubts are confirmed when Faye is nowhere to be found on the
morning of May Day. And as ‘Jack in the Green’ puts on his impressive costume
to lead the parade, the actress’s dead body is discovered – tethered to the
maypole on the Castle grounds . . . and so it’s left to Pearl and DCI Mike
McGuire to unravel the mystery of the May Day murder.

My Review:

‘May Day Murder’ is already the third book in the
Whitstable Pearl Mystery series. I devoured the first two books, so when I
received the email saying ‘May Day Murder’ was on its way to me I was super
excited and I couldn’t wait to start reading and have this pretty looking book
in my hands.
The Whitstable Pearl Mystery series is a fun, cozy
mystery series that takes place in the little town of Whitstable. I love
reading about this little town and the people who live there. And reading ‘May
Day Murder’ was really so much fun.
The main character Pearl is a restaurant owner and a
private investigator. Yet again she finds herself in the middle of a murder
investigation. But thankfully investigating is something Pearl loves to do, and
is really good in. This time Whitstable is shaken by the murder of an actress
who lived in Whitstable years ago. And a murder also means that DCI Mike
McGuire is back in town.
‘May Day Murder’ was definitely another fun and addicting
read in the Whitstable Pearl Mystery series. I loved getting back to the life
of Whitstable and its fun and intriguing citizens. Although we did get to read
about a possible beginning romance between Pearl and Mike in the previous two
books, we now finally get a little more details about their ‘relationship’ and
it was so good to read about.
I found this book a little more predictable than the
first two books, since I picked up what was going on pretty fast, but I still
loved every single page. The characters are so much fun, the murder
investigation is intriguing, there is a little romance and the story was interesting
enough to keep me hooked until the very last page.
I also really loved the cover of ‘May Day Murder’. The
Whitstable Pearl Mystery books just look soooooo pretty on my shelves. Another
great job Julie!! I can’t wait for the next read in this super fun series.
