Stranded in the most beautiful cabin in the middle of nowhere with my bodyguard shouldn’t be so hard. Except Gavin King is no longer looking at me like a client and his touches are far from professional.

Gavin is not a typical bodyguard. The owner of Kings Security is the complete opposite of me. While, I’m the country's most renowned angsty voice, who hides behind a stage name, he has a presence which can’t be confined. His broad shoulders, curly tresses reaching his shoulders, and colorful tattoos, send my hormones into overdrive.

His plan against my stalker is simple. Fake dating.

Those words are far more complicated in reality. In between the kisses and touches, staged for the camera, there are moments just for us.

I sing for him at night, as my voice turns out to be the only cure for his insomnia. He takes me on bike rides, because I’m scared of cars. But, with each intimate moment, the line between pretense and truth becomes increasingly blurred. I see a side of my bodyguard which he hides behind thick walls. Although his assignment with me is meant to be temporary, my heart can’t stop wanting it to be forever.

I’ve been reading Vikki Jay for a little while now, and I’ve been loving her books. So when the ARC of ‘Protected Love’ arrived on my kindle, I was super exited and started reading as soon as I could. Although this is book three in the King World series, this book can be read as a standalone.

In ‘Protected Love’ we read the story of Minnie and Gavin. Minnie is a famous singer, who hides her true identity. Unfortunately lately Minnie has been getting some bad messages. It’s clear that she has a stalker who knows who she really is and her life is in danger. After another message, Gavin becomes her bodyguard. As the boss of Kings Security he knows how to keep Minnie save.

Shortly after meeting, Gavin takes Minnie to a cabin to lay low for a little while. But being surrounded by each other every moment of every day brings other dangers. Soon they learn they have more in common then they first thought. Both Gavin and Minnie are living with the effects of something horrible that happened in the past.

As a fan of the movie ‘The Bodyguard’, I already loved the idea of this book when I first read the book description. A singer and her bodyguard? Swoon. And luckily for me this book pulled me in right from the start. I loved getting to know both Minnie and Gavin. Minnie has this sweetness over her, and I felt so bad for everything that she was going through. From the moment she meets Gavin, she feels attracted to him. But she is sure a guy like Gavin would never look at her. I loved how ‘clumsy’ she was with him. It made me laugh several times, because I would totally be the same.

But my favorite character was definitely Gavin. At first we only get to see this grumpy, serious guy who is definitely not the social type. Soon we learn that there is much more to him. And he is absolutely enchanted by Minnie. I loved how fiercely he wanted to protected her.

The romance between Minnie and Gavin was fun and exciting. Their chemistry was definitely flying of the pages, and I just adored them. There where also some mild suspense moments, which kept me entertained.

At times, especially near the end I felt like the pace of the story got a bit slow, but nevertheless I loved this story. The setting was really fun, and I definitely am curious about the other books in this series.

About Vikki Jay

In those early morning hours when I’m alone, my imaginations run wild and I pen down the life of people living in my head. All my life, I have lived in small towns in different parts of the world. The friendships, the camaraderie that people share around me inspired me to create Cherrywood and St. Peppers, the two towns where all my stories take place.

I write about beautiful coincidences, finding love in unexpected places and times, and fighting hard to get that happily ever after.

I reject to read, see, write anything that does not promise a HEA.
My characters are sexy yet shy, strong yet reserved…

I am married to a man whom I fell in love at an age of 15, proposed him at an age of 23 and married at an age of 30. He has no clue what I write or do when he is snoring quietly in the next room.
