Welcome
to Maureen’s Books Wednesday’s Favorites. In the Wednesday’s Favorites
post I will talk about a book I loved and that I think deserves a
little more attention. I read popular books, but also many books that
aren’t so popular (yet). In this post all sorts of books from all sorts
of genre’s will have a chance to shine. Today’s Wednesday’s Favorites
is ‘Baxter’s Draw’ by Juliette Harper, a book I read in April 2015.

The Book:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24901373-baxter-s-draw?from_search=trueTexas rancher Langston Lockwood died leaving his three
daughters with an inheritance of secrets, lies, and mysteries. The family
ranch, the Rocking L, includes a lonely box canyon called Baxter’s Draw, which
may be the key to a hidden Spanish treasure.

Still reeling from their father’s suspicious suicide,
Kate, Jenny, and Mandy are determined to discover the truth about Baxter’s
Draw.
Did their
grandfather really steal that part of the family’s land from their neighbors
and rivals, the Baxters?
According to the story long told in their small town, the
land changed hands during a crooked poker game.
Could there be
something in Baxter’s Draw worth fighting and dying over?
Professor Jake Martin thinks the Lockwood ranch may be
the key to solving the legend of Jim Bowie’s lost silver mine.
But it’s not just the girls who want the secrets at the
heart of Langston Lockwood’s legacy to be revealed.
Outsiders trespassing on the land seem determined to go
to any lengths to get what they want, even if that means striking at the heart
of all the Lockwood sisters hold dear.

Praise for ‘Baxter’s Draw’:

Baxter’s Draw is
a nicely written story about family and relationships that incorporated mystery
nicely. It’s a really good read.
This book was a
short southern romantic suspense novel building again on the ties of family.
With two books under my belt on this series, I have enjoyed them immensely.
This book is
filled with mystery but most of all with love and family. I loved reading about
the sisters and how they searched for more answers about their estranged
father. I loved how they became a family again, together with the men in their
life.

About the Author:

Juliette Harper is the pen name used by the writing team
of Patricia Pauletti and Rana K. Williamson. As a writer, Juliette’s goal is to
create strong female characters facing interesting, challenging, painful, and
at times comical situations. Refusing to be bound by genre, her primary interest
lies in telling good stories.
Pauletti, an Easterner of Italian descent, is an
accomplished musician with an eye for art and design. Williamson, a Texan from
a long line of hardheaded Scots, knows the world of the Lockwoods like the back
