Welcome to the Wednesday’s Favorites post. In the Wednesday’s
Favorites post I will talk about a book I loved and that I think
deserves a
little more attention. I read popular books, but also many books that
aren’t so
popular (yet). In this post all sorts of books from all sorts of genre’s
will have
a chance to shine. Today’s Wednesday’s Favorites is ‘Striking Out’ by Scarlet Bennett, a book I read September 2015.

Forced out of her home in regional Australia with her
singing career in ruins, Sharon Jackson hits the city in search of stardom. But
the macho world of rock-n’-roll is hard to crack, and Shazza finds herself in
trouble. Her career is going nowhere, her past won’t stay buried, and
everything she’s worked for is on the line.

With a sleazy agent who wants more than his fair share , how is she ever going
to make it to the top? Shazza has a decision to make, and with her past
following her at every turn, time is running out.

When she finds herself torn between the brooding guitarist with the dragon
tattoo and the whip-smart fighter with demons of his own, Shazza’s life is
about to get even more complicated…

Fast, fun and mischievouly funny, you won’t be able to put it down.

Praise for ‘Striking Out’:

You will laugh, you’ll get inspired and you’ll swoon. But
most importantly, you will want to relive the experience. I can’t wait for
more!!
To say ‘Striking Out’ was an easy read (it was), would be
selling it short. It was so much more. The story flowed in a conversational
manner, retelling the journey of Sharon Jackson as she metamorphosed from the
young, self-obsessed, rock star wannabe that she started out as, into the
reputable musical force that she hope to become.
‘Striking Out’ by Scarlet Bennett is a distinctly
Australian book. It has all the slang you’d hear if you were in Australia
(possibly depending regionally) and for me it made it all the more real, making
me feel like I was actually transported to Australia and Shazza’s life.
This book was amazing and I’m so glad I had the
opportunity to read this one. I read it in one sitting, and it just wasn’t long
enough. Scarlet Bennett really did an amazing job with this one. Great job! 😉

About the Author:

Scarlet Bennett spent her formative years in regional
Western Australia, and it shows. Years  of city living have softened her
broad accent, but the slang she’s stuck with. After earning a Masters degree in
Psychology, the colourful characters of her childhood – and that irrepressible
Aussie spirit – found their way onto the page. She is a graduate of
Allaboutwriting’s mentoring program, and lives in Canberra with her husband,
kids, and far more animals than can reasonably fit on a suburban plot.
