The bestselling series continues as a royal bloodline is
compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the King…
After turning his back on the throne for centuries,
Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle- with the help of his
beloved mate.  But the crown sets heavily
on his head.  As the war with the
Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits
home, he is forced to make choices that put everything- and everyone- at risk.
Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into
when she mated with the last pure blooded vampire on the planet:  An easy ride was not it.  But when she decides she wants a child, she’s
unprepared for Wrath’s response- or the distance it creates between them.
The question is, will true love win out… or tortured
legacy take over?

About the Series:

The
Black Dagger Brotherhood series is a paranormal romance series by author
J.R.Ward. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is about a society of vampire warriors
who life together and defend their race against their enemy’s. The first book
in the series is called ‘Dark Lover’ and was published in 2005. ‘The King’ is already
the twelfth book in this series and is coming out in August.

My Review:

I received a paperback of ‘The King’ by J.R. Ward through ‘Little, Brown Book Group’ publishing in exchange for an honest review. I heard of J.R.
Ward before and I knew her books were very successful, but still I never read
one of her books before. So when I received an email with the question if I was
interested in a copy of her new book I was super excited. I was a little afraid
that I couldn’t ‘get into’ this book because I’ve never read the other books in
this series, but fortunately that was not the case.
In ‘The King’ we follow the story of Warth, son of Warth.
Wrath is the last pure blooded vampire on the planet and after having ignored
his inheritance for centuries, he is now sitting on his father’s throne as the
King of his race. But being King isn’t what he thought it would be. There is a
lot of paperwork going on and soon he is so swamped with work that he isn’t noticing
the changes in his beloved mate Beth.
Beth is trying to get used to the fact that the guy she
loves is the King. Being with the last pure blooded vampire isn’t as easy as
she first thought. But love conquers all right?! When Beth decides she wants to
have a baby, Wrath’s reaction is anything but what she hoped for. But soon that’s
not the only thing Wrath and Beth are worrying about. Someone is after the
throne and soon danger is upon them.
Before I started reading this book I wasn’t really sure
what I could expect. I was looking through reviews of previous books in the
Black Dagger Brotherhood series and I got really excited about this series. But
I was still afraid that I wouldn’t be able to really ‘get’ this book because I hadn’t
read the previous books. Thankfully I loved this book from the very first page
and I didn’t feel like I was missing stuff from previous books. There are a lot
of strange terms (like shellan and doggen) in this book but thankfully all
these terms are explained in the first chapter and that made this book very
understandable for me.
I loved the way J.R. Ward pulled me into her world of the
Black Dagger Brotherhood and I just couldn’t get enough. What I didn’t expect was
how sexy and sometimes even really romantic this book was. I really loved the
way these vampires feel and love.
What I also really enjoyed where the parts about the
other vampires in this book. I loved the parts where we read about Lola and
Assail and Trez and Selena. It was very interesting to read about these other
vampires. And I really wish I could read more about them and how their story
will continue.
The character I loved the most in this book was
definitely Beth. I loved how she stood up for herself in a world full of
dominating male vampires. Even though she’s also a vampire, she is just a
little woman in comparison to the big, muscular and strong vampires of the
brotherhood. But she doesn’t get intimidated and I loved her for that. I also
really loved the way she wanted to take care of her man and didn’t let Wrath’s
attitude get into her way.
Having finished ‘The King’ I just can’t wrap my arms
around the fact I didn’t read a book in this series before. Seriously what is
wrong with me? I was really missing out.
So for anyone who loves vampires, romance, suspense and
adventure.. you really should get this book and start reading this series. I
loved it and I’m definitely going to read more books in this series.
