There’s absolutely no way I’d ever work for my ex-boyfriend. Besides, the only thing he needs help with is pulling the stick from his perfectly sculpted backside.
Gordon Benson is the one man I never wanted to see again. He’s grumpy, antagonistic, and so irritatingly more attractive than he was 12 years ago. Those biceps, that muscular chest, those dark green eyes that still manage to get me all twisted up…it’s not fair.
I broke up with him. He demolished my heart. End of story.
Or at least it was until I ran into him after a figure skating gig. And then his sister offered me a job as their executive assistant —a job I didn’t need until the company I worked for went bankrupt.
So, here I am, selling my soul to the actual Devil to make sure me and my daughter are taken care of. The daughter who shares his DNA and yet he acts like she doesn’t exist. I keep telling myself this job is only temporary, that I’ll find something else, but the more I stay here, the more the Nashville Devils feel like family.
And maybe there’s more to Gordon than insults and a prickly exterior. Maybe he’s not quite villain I made him out to be but there’s still too much at stake. He could lose his hockey team and I could lose the only thing I have left. My heart.
Although I’m definitely not the sporty type, I love reading sports romance. I’m not even picky about the kind of sport honestly. There’s just something about it I love. What I do love about sports is watching football (a.k.a. soccer), and even though I know nothing about hockey, I was so excited when Melissa Ivers asked me to read her hockey romance story. ‘Bossy Devil’ is the fifth book in the Nashville Devils series, but can be read as a standalone. It was my first book by this author.
In ‘Bossy Devil’ we read the story of Gordon and Riley. Gordon is the owner of the Nashville Devils, and is known for being a huge grump. When his ex-girlfriend appears suddenly after not having seen her in years, he is angry and even grumpier than before. He plans on staying away from her, but this ends up being impossible since she is the only one who can make him feel anything.
Riley has been working hard and taking care of her daughter and sister all on her own for years. The last thing she needs is seeing the guy who broke her heart all those years ago. But when she gets offered a job that pays so much it would make all her problems disappear, she can’t say no. Even if that means she will be surrounded by Gordon. All she has to do is stay away from him as much as she can. But the guy seems to be everywhere. And he seems to think he is allowed to have an opinion about what she does in her free time.
‘Bossy Devil’ was an easy to read book. Even though it’s the fifth book in the series, I found no difficulty in getting to know these characters and learning the dynamics. The two main characters Gordon and Riley where a lot of fun to get to know. They where High School lovers and where madly in love. When they broke up, they both where left heartbroken and both never really seemed to have been able to move on. I loved how the author gave us moments from their past as well as there current story. I was easily swept away by their romance and it made for a really fun reading.
There where some small things in this book that confused me or I could have gone without. For one I found Gordon being the biggest grump, changing into a much kinder and sweet guy in a blink of an eye a bit to sudden. I totally believe he could have changed for Riley, but it felt like a bit rushed in my opinion. And the whole club thing, where Gordon supposedly had a membership, felt a bit unnecessary for me. Sure it made this a book a bit more sexy, but in the end I didn’t feel like it did much for the story and Gordon’s character.
Overall ‘Bossy Devil’ was a very fun read and above all it made me want to read the other books in the series as well. I’m definitely curious to read what the other Nashville Devils have in store for us

I’m not at all sporty, either, but I do love a good sports romance! Even though it sounds like Gordon’s personality did a big change in a short amount of time, overall this sounds like a good one. Glad you enjoyed it!
It was definitely a fun read. I really need to read more by this author.
Great honest review! xo
I’m no longer very sporty, but I will always enjoy a good sports romance.
Thanks Natalie.
I love this series! I just finished this book this morning. I would say that although you could jump right in here, Gordon’s grumpiness is well known throughout the series, so to me, it didn’t feel like he had suddenly changed. It felt like Riley coming back into his life was what he had been waiting for all along. The sex club thing felt totally unnecessary to me. Like, the only way it really will make sense in the long run to me is if those twins make another appearance with their own books. I hope you will go back and read the series from the start. I think you will enjoy the books.
I totally agree with you about the sex club. And I’m really curious about the rest of the series. Hopefully I’ll be able to read those as well.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one as well.
