GoodreadsKyle Spencer is the king of country music.
She's the city girl sent to talk him into returning to the stage..Piper Egan landed her dream job straight out of college: working at Empire Records. But instead of discovering new talent and changing lives like she hoped, her time is spent taking meeting notes and catering to spoiled celebrities. When the chance to change that finally appears, she should be thrilled.
Unfortunately, Piper's promotion involves the charming cowboy she's spent years attempting to avoid. And flying to Middle of Nowhere, Texas, in a desperate attempt to talk the King of Country into returning to the stage.
It's a work trip with no boundaries. Piper is determined to return to New York with a signed contract in hand, no matter what it takes. But that plan becomes complicated when she's greeted by a scowl instead of Kyle's trademark grin. Becomes challenging, when she glimpses the genuine guy beneath the superstar. Becomes impossible, when she learns the reason he walked away from the spotlight.
When she realizes...her only plan should have been to protect her heart.
After reading the sign up post for an ARC of ‘King of Country’, I knew this was a book I wanted to read. Country life, a singer and a romance.. It sounded like this one was written for me. So when I received an email with the news that I would receive an ARC, I was so excited. And I started reading as soon as I could.
In ‘King of Country’ we read the story of Kyle Spencer and Piper Egan. Kyle is known as the King of Country. For more than a decade he has been one of the most famous artists in his field. He was never home for a long time, and he never got a lot of down time. And now Kyle is done. He returns home to his family ranch and doesn’t want to return to the music industry
In comes Piper. After working hard at college she got her dream job at Empire Records. And now she is finally up for the promotion she has wanted for years. The only thing she has to do to get there, is make Kyle sign a new contract. The problem is, she has tried to avoid Kyle for years. But Piper is determined to get her promotion and she won’t stop until she gets Kyle to sign up. Even if she has to spend time with a guy she finds irritatingly arrogant.
‘King of Country’ had a slow start but ended up getting better and better the further I got. My favorite kind of music is Country music, so I kept singing all these Luke Combs songs in my head while reading this book. And it was definitely a fun read. I loved reading about Kyle, as the country singer, but also as the guy from a small country town who just wanted to work at his farm and forget the rest. And above all I loved how he saw Piper right from the first moment they met. He was definitely a swoon worthy guy.
The chemistry between Kyle and Piper was great to read about. Piper was very oblivious to Kyle’s true feelings right from the start, and although it made me frustrated at her at times, I had mostly fun reading about her character. She worked hard for her dreams. And most of all I enjoyed the slow burn romance between these two.
Some moments, like the beginning, felt a bit slow to me. But in the end I really had fun reading ‘King of Country’ and look forward to reading more books by this author.
