(Previously published in 2011 under the title Smokeless Fire (A Fire Spirits Novel)
A week ago, Ari Johnson had two worries—how she would tell her dad she didn’t want to go to college and how she’d mend her broken friendship with Charlie, who she’s secretly loved since they were kids. But when she’s transported from her bedroom into the chilling realm of the jinn, Ari soon has much bigger problems to deal with. Not only does she discover she’s not human, but Ari’s a lost princess and a pawn in a war between a terrifyingly powerful sultan and his sons, the Seven Kings of Jinn. To make matters worse, she’s been assigned a brooding bodyguard, Jai Bitar, a too-sexy-for-his-own-good jinn who shadows her every step and only complicates an already complex situation.
While Ari tries to make sense of her new reality, she’ll have to battle ancient deadly creatures, epic family drama, and heart-wrenching romantic entanglements. And that's merely the beginning...

I’m a big fan of Samantha Young a.k.a. S. Young. So when I was asked to read ‘The Seven Kings of Jinn’, a YA Paranormal Romance novel, I simple couldn’t say no. I don’t read a lot of YA, but I loved the sound of this book and started reading as soon as I could.

In ‘The Seven Kings of Jinn’ we read the story of Ari. Ari is in her last few years of high school and things are definitely tough. Ari’s best friend Charlie, who she also has a bit of a crush on, is going on a dark path and doesn’t seem to want any help. And to make matters worse she secretly really doesn’t want to go to college. But how is she supposed to tell her dad this? As your typical teenager Ari is convinced life can’t get any worse, but then she is suddenly transported to another realm and learns that nothing will ever be the same again.

Although I rarely read any YA novels anymore, I must say I really enjoyed this read from the moment I opened it. Ari’s character is definitely an interesting one. She is a teenager, with all your big teenager feelings, but she is also much more like a grown up then you’d first expect. For one, she mostly takes care of herself since her dad is rarely there. And secondly, when she sees her best friend is going through something terrible she isn’t afraid to tell the grown ups they aren’t doing the right thing. I just loved her character.

Then there is Ari’s best friend Charlie, and the new guy Jay. Although the romance part in this book is really mellow, I loved it. There is definitely a hint of some greater upcoming romance in this book and I just loved it. I’m definitely a big fan of Jay. He is just my kind of guy, cute, kind of broken.. I loved him. Charlie on the other hand I don’t trust at all. Not sure why, but there is something about him I just don’t get.

The paranormal/fantasy part took some getting used too. I for one had never read a book about Jinn, but I definitely enjoyed it. There is a lot to find out about them, but since Ari is learning everything too, it feels natural. This ‘world’ is unlike any others I read recently, and I’m curious to find out more.

‘The Seven Kings of Jinn’, definitely was a very fun and interesting first book in a new series. I for one can’t wait to find out more about Ari, Jay and all those Jinns.
