It was a
stab in the dark.

On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone
sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan’s neck, then disappeared quietly
into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel’s best
friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it
felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But
Chanel’s blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.

Then, as Eve Dallas puzzles over a homicide that seems carefully planned and
yet oddly personal, she receives a tip from an unexpected source: an author of
police thrillers who recognizes the crime—from the pages of her own book.
Dallas doesn’t think it’s coincidence, since a recent strangulation of a sex
worker resembles a scene from her writing as well. Cops look for patterns of
behavior: similar weapons, similar MOs. But this killer seems to find
inspiration in someone else’s imagination, and if the theory holds, this may be
only the second of a long-running series.

The good news is that Eve and her billionaire husband Roarke have an excuse to
curl up in front of the fireplace with their cat, Galahad, reading mystery
stories for research. The bad news is that time is running out before the next
victim plays an unwitting role in a murderer’s deranged private drama—and only
Eve can put a stop to a creative impulse gone horribly, destructively wrong.

My Review:

For a view
years now I’ve been reading the In Death series by J.D. Robb. And I love them!
It’s such a fun, thrilling series and I just can’t get enough of lieutenant Eve
Dallas and her murder investigations. Unfortunately I’ve been a little behind
in reading these books, but slowly I’m catching up again.
‘Dark In
Death’ is the 46th book in the series. In ‘Dark In Death’ Dallas is investigating
a brutal murder in a movie theater. Everything about the murder looks planned and
personal. And something just seems off about it. Soon Dallas finds out this
murder happened before, inside the books of a police thriller series. Now Dallas
has to find the murderer in real-life while also reading the books everyone is
talking about.
Every time
I read a J.D. Robb novel I just get this cozy feeling. There’s just something
about this series that I really enjoy and can’t seem to get enough of. This
book wasn’t any different. From the very beginning I enjoyed this book. This
time the murderer was recreating the murders from a police book series, which
made this investigation really fun. Reading a book series to get to the
murderer, sounds fun right?! Well, those moments when Dallas was reading though
the books to get clues about the murders, was definitely fun to me. Especially
when they where able to predict a possible victim.
But although
this book was fun, it wasn’t as exciting and thrilling as the previous book I
read in this series. I enjoyed it, especially the moments between Dallas and
Roarke, her husband (I just love them) but I wasn’t as hooked to the story as I
would have liked. I found myself losing my concentration a lot and there was
just something about this book that didn’t really work for me. Even after
finishing the book a view days ago I can’t really tell you what it was exactly.
I just missed something.
Even though
this book wasn’t my favorite in the series, I still enjoyed it and look forward
to read the next book in the series.
