The 13th book in J.R. Ward’s Sunday Times bestselling
Black Dagger Brotherhood series

Two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a
brutal destiny in the heart-wrenching new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood
by Sunday Times bestselling author J. R. Ward.
Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not
just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the
underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as
a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in
Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual
servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on . . . except for his
brother, iAm.
iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from
self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena
enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around… but by then
it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is
nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.
Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered
for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave
behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes
and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a
reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the
name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice . . .
This book is available at Amazon, Amazon UK, iBooks and Barnes & Noble.

My Review:

In August 2014, I read my first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood
series ‘The King’. A little strange perhaps to read the twelfth book in a
series as the first one.. but although I didn’t get everything, I did enjoy the
book. So when I received ‘The Shadows’ weeks ago I was excited to start
reading. I loved the cover and it definitely looks awesome on my shelve.

In ‘The Shadows’ we read the story about the brothers
Trez and iAm. Both brothers have responsibilities they take very seriously. Trez
has been a pimp in New York city for years. And all iAm every wanted to do was
make sure his brother was okay. But life hasn’t been easy. And when love comes
around thinks change drastically.
Well, this book definitely was an emotional
roller-coaster. I didn’t really know what I could expect when I started reading
this book, but I know I didn’t expect to feel this much. This book definitely
makes you feel a lot of things. It was fun, romantic, exciting and
heartbreaking. I definitely had a blank stare moment after finishing this book.
Boy…
The main characters in this book are the twin brothers Trez and iAm. They are twin brothers but
definitely very different if you get to know them. There are also a lot of
other characters in this book but I loved reading about the two brothers the
most.
This book definitely is a Romance
novel. There is a very nice romance to read about and it definitely makes you
feel all those romance-novel-feels. It’s thrilling and it’s fun. And in the end
it’s heart-breaking! I really didn’t expect this book to go the way it did.. It’s
just.. Well, you have to read it for yourself because I don’t want to spoil
anything.
I really liked this book. It was interesting
to read and it made me feel almost every emotion out there. Books that make
that happen are definitely impressive if you ask me. But I also did feel like I
missed stuff from previous books. Especially when I look on Goodreads and read
other people’s reviews.. I don’t share the history of these characters and I
think this book would be better and even more meaningful if I had read the
previous books. And all those different point-of-views.. I really had some
trouble keeping up.
It was a good read and I definitely
want to read the previous books.
