Years later, Rose and Emily return to Mill River for the reading of their
mother’s will, where they learn that Josie would do anything to force their
reconciliation: the sisters must move into neighbouring houses for the summer
and work together to locate the key to Josie’s safe deposit box, which contains

A view weeks ago I received a paperback of ‘The Mill River
Redemption’ by Darcie Chan through the ‘Little Brown Book Group’ in exchange
for an honest review. Although this book didn’t seem like the kind of book I
normally read, I really liked the description, and decided to give this book a
try. And I’m really glad I did.

In ‘The Mill River Redemption’ we meet Josie DiSanti and
her two young daughters. After a terrible accident Josie moves with her two
girls to a small town called Mill River where the only living family Josie
still has left lives, Ivy. Together with  help of Ivy, Josie tries to make
a life for herself and her two little girls as a single mom. Josie manages to
get a new job and soon she also has a new home to raise her daughter with help
of her aunt Ivy. Through the years both Josie daughters, Rose and Emily grow up
and they learn to help their mom in the house. But how older the girls get how
more things change. And soon another terrible accident happens, and the lives of
the DiSanti girls change forever. The ones close relationship between Rose and
Emily dissapeares intirely and soon Josie is forced to see her daughters apart
from each other. But Josie is not one to give up quickly. And soon Josie has a
plan to make her daughters see eye to eye.

Although ‘The Mill River Redemption’ is not the kind of
book I normally read, I found myself really enjoying this book. I loved how the
characters lived in this little town where everybody knows each other and where
everyone looks out for each other. I loved reading about the different
characters in the little town and how caring everybody was. This is just
something I really don’t know since I’ve been living in a big city for a great
part of my life.

I loved to read about Josie and her little girls and how
Josie worked her hard to make sure her girls had a good life. What I also
really enjoyed was the way each chapter was written about another time. There
where chapters about the present and about the past. I loved how at the end
everything became clear and everything got together.

The character I loved the most was definitely Aunt Ivy. I
loved how she took care of everyone and that every single person came to her
for a chat. The fact that she had her own bookshop made me love her even more.
I could almost imagine myself sitting in that bookshop talking about life and
books. Loved that.

This book was definitely a nice read. I loved the small
town life and the family ‘drama’. This book was a really nice read and
definitely made you think about life.
