When I first read the book description of ‘Vow of Worth’, I knew this was a book I wanted to read. So when I got the ARC to read, I was super excited and started reading as soon as I could. ‘Vow of Worth’ is my first Emma Renshaw read. In ‘Vow of Worth’ we meet ...KEEP READING »

Tarnished Empire

Tarnished Empire

I’ve never read a book by Ava Harrison before. But when I read the book description of ‘Tarnished Empire’ I was immediately fascinated and decided to sign up for the Blog Tour. And when I received an ARC, I was super excited to start reading. And lets be honest.. That cover isn’t bad to look at either right?!

In ‘Tarnished Empire’ we meet Phoenix. Phoenix lost her parents when she was very young, she grew up in private schools but always knew her adoptive father loved her very much. When her father shares for the first time ever, that he is in trouble, Phoenix is determined to help him. And she might be the only one who can. Phoenix will try to get close to Alaric Prince, the guy who wants to kill her father. But the moment she takes that decision.. everything changes.

When I read the book description, I wondered how this book was going to go. And throughout this book I kept wondering. Not in a bad way at all.. but in a very good way. From the moment I started reading, I was hooked and wanted to know more about Phoenix and Alaric. And so I found myself yet again, reading till very late at night.

Yes, this book is a romance.. but it’s also definitely a suspense. Right from the start a lot is happening, and it kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. Both Phoenix and Alaric are unlike any other characters I read about. Phoenix is tough, and so very brave. I mean.. you might be a little crazy if you try to seduce a dangerous guy without a lot of thought. And for Alaric.. Well he definitely wasn’t a good guy. Slowly on Phoenix changed him, but there will always be something dangerous about him.

And I loved that. I loved how this book and its main characters where different from my usual romance characters. The romance was definitely very good. The chemistry between Phoenix and Alaric was great and flying of the pages. And although their where plenty of sexy scenes.. it wasn’t the main focus of this read.

What was also fun and unique about this read was the setting. This book doesn’t take place in a city or little town. And I loved how different it was. And then the island.. I loved the time Phoenix and Alaric spend on the island.

‘Tarnished Empire’ was a book I couldn’t put down and finished as soon as I could. It definitely makes me want to read more books by this author as soon as possible.

Zone of Action

When I first saw ‘Zone of Action’ on Netgalley I wasn’t sure if this was a book for me. I love romantic suspense, but that cover just was to flashy for my taste and I hadn’t heard about Cathy Skendrovich before. But the book description sounded exciting, so I requested a copy and was super excited when I got approved to read it.

In ‘Zone of Action’ we meet Audrey Jenkins, a former terror cell expert who is now the owner of a little flower shop. After an operation went wrong, Audrey decided she wanted a quiet life.. and so she bought her very own flower shop. But when Audrey finds out her (ex) boyfriend is selling military secrets to the enemy, she turns him in and finds herself back in the world of military.

CID Special Agent Cam Harris ‘lost’ Audrey’s ex-boyfriend while being on his custody. And now he is the one assigned to get him back. This leads Cam right to Audrey. And although they are on a dangerous path, their chemistry can’t be denied.

When I started reading this book, it honestly took me a while to really get into the book. Somehow I found myself being easily distracted. I don’t really know why honestly, because the beginning of this book wasn’t boring at all. I kept on reading, and slowly on the characters began to grow on me.

Audrey and Cam’s chemistry was something that could easily be felt coming of the pages. And although I didn’t like them at first, I loved them in the end. Their slow burn romance was definitely the best of this book if you ask me. I especially loved Cam. He was so tough on the outside, but Audrey was his soft spot.

‘Zone of Action’ was definitely an action packed romance. And although it took me a little while to get into it, I loved it in the end. This book definitely had me sitting on the edge of my seat. And I really recommend it.

Twisted Circles (Secret Society, #2)

When I saw the sign up for ‘Twisted Circles’ a little while ago, I was immediately intrigued with this story. And when I saw that this book is the second book in a series, but can be read as a standalone.. I knew I wanted to read it. So when I got approved to read it for the Blog Tour, I was super excited and started reading as soon as possible.

In ‘Twisted Circles’ we meet Eva. Eva wakes up in a mental institution not knowing who she is or what she has is doing there. A police officer is telling her all this stuff she simple can’t remember herself. But what choice has she other than believing him? Eva supposedly has a sister. And when she sees her, she can’t deny the fact that they look exactly the same. But how can Eva forget about her twin?

This story was definitely unlike any other book I read recently. It’s a romantic suspense, with little on the romance part. There’s secret societies and a lot of weird stuff is happening. And this book has no slow introduction, we start right in the middle of things. This book was definitely very intriguing. For almost the entire book I didn’t know what to expect or what was going to happen.

What did I mean with little on the romance? Well, there is some romance in this book.. but it was very clearly not the main part of the book. I honestly don’t even really know if I liked the romance part. The connection with Eva and Adam, wasn’t something I could really ‘feel’ and although I liked them, I didn’t really love them.

As a standalone book I definitely think I ‘got’ everything. I didn’t feel like I was missing important information. But I do wonder if things might have been less confusing for me. There were moments in this book where I just had to reread a chapter because I just didn’t really understand what was happening.

Overall, ‘Twisted Circles’ is an interesting, exciting read that keeps you hooked to the pages. I for one just wanted to keep on reading so I could find out what the heck was going on. But it was not the book for me. I simple like a bit more romance and a little less complex storylines.

Broken (Deep Ops #3)

After reading the first book in the Deep Ops series ‘Hidden’ back in 2018, I’ve been wanting to read other books by Rebecca Zanetti. So when I saw the third book in the Deep Ops series on Netgalley, I requested it immediately. Luckily, I got approved and started reading as soon as possible. ‘Broken’ is a standalone novel.

In ‘Broken’ we meet Former Navy SEAL Clarence Wolfe and Reporter Dana Mulberry. Clarence and Dana have felt this connection between them from the moment they met. But Wolfe has been clear from the start: they can only be friends. So when Wolfe and Dana accidentally meet when they are both on a job, they are both frustrated with each other. And when their job seems to involve the same dangerous people, they decide to work together. Well.. Wolfe decides he has to protect Dana.

I love Contemporary Romance novels, but once in a while I just need a little more action. So I was super excited to start reading ‘Broken’, a Romantic suspense novel, and it didn’t disappoint. Right from the beginning of the book these pages where filled with romance and definitely some suspense. And I definitely enjoyed reading it.

This book starts right in the middle of things. Clarence and Dana have already met, I think this happened in book two, and even though they have feelings for each other they try to stay professional and friends only. Although I haven’t read book two, and because of that hadn’t read about Clarence and Dana meeting.. it wasn’t something that bothered me. I was able to catch up fast enough, and enjoyed their friends/lovers conversations.

The suspense in this book was definitely nice to read. It kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. The suspense moments went by a little fast at times, but I truly enjoyed reading them. And the chemistry between Clarence and Dana was really fun to read about. I really was rooting for them from the start.

What I enjoyed the most about this read was the fact we got to read things through both Clarence and Dana’s point of view. And although some parts where a little predictable, I definitely enjoyed reading this book.
