GoodreadsFirst rule of being a nanny? Don’t fall for the single dad, even if he is smoking hot.
But that’s exactly what happens when grumpy small-town sheriff Asher Whitlock reluctantly hires me to take care of his daughter for the summer. Neither of us is thrilled with the arrangement, but he’s desperate for help, and I need the money for grad school this fall.
All we need to do is keep our distance and remain professional . . . turns out, that’s easier said than done.Instead of focusing on my future, all I see is the strong jawline, crystal-blue eyes, and rock hard body right in front of me. We try to resist each other, but we end up crossing every line until I’m in his bed.
I tell myself it’s just this once.Okay, twice. All right, every night.
But it’s got to end–he’s fourteen years older than me, with a kid and a stressful job. Have I mentioned my dad is his boss? Then there’s the past I’m trying to forget. Secrets aren’t easy to keep and mine are getting too big to hide.
Walking away is never simple but when I do, I can’t look back.
Even if it means leaving behind the man I was never meant to love.
I’ve been loving Corinne Michaels writing for a few years now. So when I saw the opportunity to sign up for an ARC of her new book, and the start of a new series, I couldn’t resist. So I signed up and was lucky enough to be picked to receive an ARC. I started reading as soon as I could.
In ‘Forbidden Hearts’ we read the story of Phoebe and Asher. Phoebe is in her twenties and has just had a rough time in grad school. Her trust is shattered, and the only thing she wants to do is go back home. At home her dad makes her take on a nanny job to small-town sheriff Asher Whitlock’s young daughter Olivia. Since the little girl is deaf, she needs a nanny who can do ASL (American Sign Language), and since Phoebe is in school to become an Audiologist and knows ASL.. It seems like the perfect match.
It takes some getting used to, but soon after starting the job Phoebe starts enjoying spending time with the little girl and being able to improve her ASL. The only down part is the grumpy Asher, who seems determined to make Phoebe feel like she isn’t doing a great job. But that isn’t the case at all. What makes Asher grumpier than ever, is the fact that he is extremely attracted to the much younger Phoebe. The chemistry between them can be seen by anyone. But Asher is determined to keep his distance.
First of all, have you seen that cover? It’s definitely one of my favorites. But lucky for me, that isn’t the only thing about this book that I loved. From the moment I started reading this book I was hooked. I loved getting to know these main characters, the other Whitlock siblings and this small town. And I definitely didn’t want to stop reading at all.
My favorite character was definitely Phoebe. I loved how driven, and hard-working she was. Her interaction with the little girl through ASL, where my absolute favorite. I loved how Corinne Michaels made that a part of this read. It just made it even more special. The chemistry between Phoebe and Asher was definitely fun and I was totally rooting for them. I didn’t find Asher nearly as grumpy as he was supposed to be though. LOL. I just enjoyed reading about him.
The whole age-gap thing I hardly noticed to be honest. They could have easily been the same age. I loved reading how Phoebe and Asher slowly became closer, and it was so fun. There where some pretty steamy moments as well and it was just a great read that made me want more.
The one thing that didn’t work as well for me, was the twist near the end. I just didn’t like it, but it didn’t bother me to much because the rest of the book was so damn fun.
Overall, ‘Forbidden Hearts’ was a great read that made me excited to read more books in the series.

Hm… I hadn’t planned on reading this one, but it sounds really good! You might have just changed my mind. Great review!
Thanks Deanna. It really was a fun read! I hope you’ll get to read it 😉
I don’t think I’ve tried this author before, although I’ve seen their books plenty of times. Seems like I might have to give them a try based on your words. Great review! xo
Thank you.
I think you’ll love this author. She writes some amazing touching romance stories.
Lovely review you have here Maureen! I have enjoyed this author so I am really looking forward to this one and I don’t mind age gaps at all. Sometimes third act conflicts can be frustrating for sure.
Thank you. Age gaps aren’t a problem to me either.. mostly. In this book I almost didn’t notice. 😀
I enjoyed this one too. I didn’t like the twist either, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment.
I’m glad to read you thought the same about the twist. Still a great read though!
