Sometimes you have to get off the grid in order to stay on it. Reeling after being betrayed by the man she loved, Brooke heads as far off the grid as she can - to a lakeside cabin in the Berkshires. Expecting to bury herself in isolation she is unprepared for her intense attraction to her sexy artist neighbor. Logan is searching for something, but he doesn’t know what. At least not until Brooke moves in next store. Within days she’s stirred feelings inside of him he thought he’d never feel. With only six months together, can the two get over their past hurt and find a chance for a happily-ever-after?

A little while ago I received an email about a review request for this audiobook. Although I always love the idea of audiobooks, I just don’t really find time to listen to them. But the book description really sounded interesting, and it wasn’t a very long audiobook.. So I decided to just go for it and received the audiobook in exchange for my honest review. I listened to it while going from and to work.

Right from the start I found myself interested in this story. The two narrators Erin Mallon and Tim Paige have very nice calm voices to listen too. Nothing sounds ‘weird’ or ‘uncomfortable’ so I was eager to continue listening right away. And their voices easily brought me to that little lakeside cabin.

In ‘Halfway Whole and Other Lies We Tell Ourselves’ we meet Brooke. Brooke has packed up her whole life to stay for six months in a little cabin. The idea of this trip is to stay completely of the grid. No cell phone, no internet.. just her own company and her writing. But right away Brooke meets her handsome neighbor Logan. And although a guy is the last thing she needs, they have a connection right from the start.

This story really had a lot of nice things. I loved the setting in that little town and those cabins. I loved the two main characters Brooke and Logan. I loved how there was a lot of mystery about Brooke’s story and the bond between Logan and his family. But unfortunately I also found this story going really fast. Brooke is this heartbroken girl one moment, and the next she is in Logan’s arms. And this was only in two days or so. It just felt to rushed to me.

As an audiobook I definitely enjoyed it. I loved how Erin and Tim alternated between the different chapters. And they grabbed my interest right from the start. But a little more time in this book would have been better I think.
