My Review:

After not
having listened to audiobooks for probably months, I was really looking for a
new audiobook I could listen to while driving to and from work. I figured that
all those traffic jams would be a little less terrible while listening to a
nice audiobook. And when I saw ‘Heart of Stone’ I thought it would have to be a
sign.

In ‘Heart
of Stone’ we meet Krystina Cole. Krystina recently finished college, and is
busy looking for the perfect job. As focused as she is on her job hunt, she
definitely isn’t looking for a man. But when she meets rich bachelor Alexander
Stone she soon finds out she isn’t in control of her own will anymore.
Alexander is handsome, and wants Krystina. And although they seem to be very
different, they can’t seem to stay away from each other.

‘Heart of
Stone’ was honestly not what I expected. Somehow I expected a romantic read
about two characters who really shouldn’t be together. I expected a cliché
story really. And I didn’t really feel the romance in this story. I enjoyed
some moments between Krystina and Alexander. Especially when they met, and the
moment they started to have sleepovers etc.

This book
is in reviews compared a lot with ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. Well, I don’t agree.
Yes, there is SM in this book just like in Fifty Shades.. but I missed the
romance which made reading about SM tolerable for me. So without the romance
feelings, I just didn’t really like this book. And I did feel the romance in
Fifty Shades, I believed there love. In this book the SM bothered me, the
characters weren’t really two people I liked and I just couldn’t connect with
them as much as I hoped.

As with
every audiobook I always need to get ‘used’ to the narrators. And Lacy Lauren
and Jeffrey Kafer where to narrators I had not listened to before. Especially
Lacy Lauren took me a very long time to get used to. Her voice was just
different and I didn’t always thought the way she spoke fitted the story. She
put the emphasis on a word differently than I would expect. But in the end I
didn’t notice this as much anymore and I started to enjoy listening to her
voice.
Jeffery
Kafer didn’t have as much ‘speaking time’ as Lacy but it was definitely fun to
listen to his voice.  I could easily
picture a strong character while I listened to his voice.

This book
gets a three star rating for me. It was fun, but not really for me. And I do
wonder if I would have liked this story more if I read it myself instead of
listening to the audiobook?

About the Author:

Dakota
Willink is a contemporary romance writer and editor, and the author of The
Stone Series. She is an associate member of Romance Writers of America and a
Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards winner.

Dakota has always had a passion for reading and writing. From the time she was
an adolescent, she enjoyed curling up with a good paperback, reading genres that
ranged from thriller and fantasy, to mystery and romance. She always dreamed of
one day writing her own book, but had put her aspirations on hold to focus on
her family and a career that would pay the bills. However, her heart continued
to be with fictional characters – whether they belonged to a favorite author or
if they were just stories that she made up in her own head.

In 2013, Dakota gathered enough courage to turn her dreams into a reality. In
between playing chauffeur to two very busy children and working her job during
the day, Dakota began to put words on paper. Eventually, she began to describe
her life as a book. Everything she saw or heard throughout the day, intertwined
with her imagination for the creation of future writings. By 2014, with the
support of her husband and two children, she gave up the security of a steady
paycheck and began working on her first novel full time.

Her first novel, Heart of Stone, was published in December of 2015. Less than a
year after its release, the Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards
recognized Heart of Stone as the 2016 Bronze Medalist in the romance category.

Dakota resides in the Western New York area, where she enjoys spending time
with family, her two Labrador Retrievers, and her spoiled rotten cat. During
the summer months, she can often be found soaking up the sun on the Great Lakes
with her family.
