Everyone in Dahlia’s world knows when they’re going to
die. Except her.
Her father has never shown her the pocket watch counting
down the days she has left to live. When he sacrifices himself to save her from
her scheduled death, Dahlia abandons her comfortable home and sets off after
his murderer to uncover the secrets her father died to protect…and the time
research that could bring him back to life.
Then she meets Farren Reed. She should hate him. He’s an
enemy soldier, a cowardly deserter, and the most insufferable man Dahlia’s ever
met. Still, she needs all the help she can get, and Farren is the only chance
she has to find the man who murdered her father. But Farren has only
twenty-seven days left on his watch.
In that time, Dahlia must recover her father’s time
research, foil a psychotic general’s plot, and learn to survive in a world that
will never be the same. But the research holds secrets more dangerous than she
had ever imagined. She will have to choose what is most important: revenge,
Farren’s life, or her own. And time is running out.

My Review:

After I read the first sentence in the book description
of ‘27 Days to Midnight’, I got super curious about this read. This really
sounded like a very different kind of book and I was really excited to start
reading it. I also loved the look of the cover. All those dark blue colors and
the gold lining. It definitely had a magical feeling to it.
‘27 Days to Midnight’ is a book that immediately starts.
No slow introductions but right down to the point. For this book that
definitely worked. We meet Dahlia on her birthday when she is on her way to see
her father. Dahlia’s father is supposed to give her, her long awaited present
of finally seeing the time she has left on her watch. Sounds weird right?!
In Dahlia’s world everyone has a watch that tells them
how long they have left to live. Dahlia has never seen her time. But her father
promised to ‘open’ her watch on her eighteenth birthday. But things go very
different than planned and Dahlia’s father gives his life to give Dahlia more
time. Now Dahlia is all alone, and she only wants one thing: revenge on the man
that murdered her father. With help of an unsuspected ally called Farren,
Dahlia journey to avenge her father starts.
This book is definitely very fast paced. There aren’t
many boring moments, or moments when nothing was happening. The writing is
interesting and the storyline is very unique. I don’t think I’ve ever read a
book similar to this one. The idea of everyone wearing watches that could tell
how long they had to live sounded a little freaky, but really had a unique and
fun feel to it. It made this read definitely very interesting.
The best part about this book were definitely the
characters. Dahlia was in the beginning very naïve, but life changed her and
she became a strong and brave character I loved to read about. But even though
I really enjoyed reading about Dahlia, Farren was my favorite character. Farren
Reed is an enemy soldier who enjoys his life as a pilot. But there is something
that makes his days very dark. Farren was definitely one of the most fun
characters I read in a while. He was a bit of drunk, but he really made me
laugh. I especially loved the interactions between Dahlia and Farren.
And then there were the other characters like Keet and
her husband. They really were wonderful to get to know.
’27 Days of Midnight’ really was a great read. I just
loved it. The story was unique and exciting. The characters were fun. And the overall
world setting was very interesting.
There were some light romantic moments, but this story
was most of all adventurous. And I would really recommend it.
