Today I’m super excited to participate in the Blog Tour
for ‘Relativity’ by Antonia Hayes. ‘Relativity’ is the author’s debut novel and
already has been published in three countries.

About the Book:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29090753-relativity
A tiny baby is rushed to hospital. Doctors suspect he was
shaken by his father, who is later charged and convicted. The baby grows up in
the care of his mother. Life goes on.

Twelve years later, Ethan is a singular young boy. Gifted with an innate
affinity for physics and astronomy, Ethan sees the world in ways others simply
can’t – through a prism of light, time, stars and space.

Ethan is the centre of his mother’s universe. Claire has tried to protect him
from finding out what happened when he was a baby. But the older Ethan gets,
the more questions he asks about his absent father.

A single handwritten letter is all it takes to set off a dramatic chain of
events, pulling both parents back together again into Ethan’s orbit. As the
years seem to warp and bend, the past is both relived and revealed anew for
each of them.

Relativity is an irresistible story about love, unbreakable bonds and
irreversible acts.

My Review:

When I first read the book description of ‘Relativity’ I
just knew I had to read this book. I was fascinated and I really wanted to know
more about this book. Also the cover was something that really sparked my
interest. When I heard I was part of the blog tour, I couldn’t be more excited.
‘Relativity’ is a beautiful story about a young boy
called Ethan, who grew up with his mum. Ethan is special. He is very smart and
he can ‘see’ more than the average person. Ethan and his mum are very close.
She is his world and vice versa. I loved reading about the relationship between
Ethan and Claire. Their relationship really was special and touching to read
about.
But there are secrets that Claire was never able to talk
about. Secrets about why Ethan’s father Matt isn’t around. But then a letter
arrives and everything changes.
This book was definitely much better than I could have
anticipated. I loved every single page. ‘Relativity’ was not so much a fun book
to read, but it really was touching and intriguing. Reading about the
relationship between a young boy and his parents was just really beautiful.
Although Ethan says a lot of stuff I can’t really
understand since I didn’t have a science class in school, I still found this
book easy to follow. The writing is easy and fun and it just never got boring.
Ethan was my favorite character in this book. He was so
smart and kind, and I loved how everything he said just sounded so intelligent.
There were a view very funny scenes in this book, and although there was more
sad stuff, this book put a smile on my face. I also think I will never look at
the stars and the universe quiet the same way. This book changed that for me
and I love it.
As a nurse I have known for a long time that the brain is
a very mysterious and intriguing part of the human body. ‘Relativity’ made that
even more clear. I wonder if we will ever be able to find out everything there
is about the brain?!
It was heartbreaking to read about the whole
Baby-Shaking-Syndrome. And even now, after having finished this book several
hours ago I don’t know how I feel about it. It is horrible, without a doubt..
but like in most stories there is always another side to it. It doesn’t make it
good, not in the slightest, but it does make it even more sad.
‘Relativity’ is a beautiful story I will definitely be
thinking about for a long time. Bravo Antonia Hayes!!
