Lila Emerson is fascinated by other people’s lives. As a
house-sitter, she loves looking after the glamorous, sophisticated homes she
could never afford herself. And as a writer, she enjoys watching the world go
by, dreaming up stories for the people she sees from her window.

But then one day she witnesses something only too real – the brutal and
shocking murder of a young woman living across the street in New York. And now,
because of what she saw, Lila’s own life is in immediate danger from an
audacious, single-minded assassin who kills for profit and for pleasure.

With the police following a false lead, Lila is on her own. Her only hope is to
team up with Ashley Archer, an artist with his own complicated reasons for
getting involved. Lila wants to trust the passionate, quick-witted Ash – but is
she letting her feelings blind her to his motives? Either way, Lila will never
watch from the sidelines again…

My Review:

I’m a huge fan of Nora Roberts and I really love all her
books I’ve read. So when I received ‘The Collector’ I was super excited to
start reading this book. The cover by Piatkus looks beautiful and I think it
definitely engages people to pick it up.
In ‘The Collector’ we meet Lila Emerson. Lila is a house
sitter and a writer and she is fascinated by other people’s lives. Every time
she stays in another house she looks through the windows to see what other
people are doing. When Lila is staying in a beautiful apartment in New York,
she is excited to see that she can see across to another apartment complex. Every
day she is looking into the other people’s houses and enjoying what she sees.
But one evening when she is getting ready for bed, she witnesses something terrible.
A young woman is murdered. Now Lila is the only witness and she is in danger
herself because the murderer knows about her.
Nora Roberts writing is yet again wonderful. This book is
fun to read, intriguing and makes you want to keep reading. The main characters
are fun and are well put together. Although the main characters Lila has a very
strange hobby of watching other people, I did like her. Lila’s life is
definitely fascinating, being a house sitter and a writer.
The male character Ashton Archer was also one I really
liked. I enjoyed his mystery and him being an artist. The romance between Lila
and Ashton was very sweet and definitely exciting to read. I was really rooting
for them.
What I also enjoyed was the romance between two other
characters in this book. Although there romance isn’t the main story, it was
really fun to read and gave this book a little extra.
This book was very interesting. There was romance and
mystery and I liked it. It didn’t wow me like the other Nora Roberts books I
read, but it sure was a very fun and enjoyable read.
