first novel in a sensational new series by number one New York Times
bestselling author Jessica Sorensen.
Nova Reed used to have dreams-of becoming a famous
drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an
instant. Now she’s getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means
doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at
her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton
Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just
about as broken as she feels inside.

Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn’t want it. The tattoos on
his chest are a constant reminder of what he’s done, what he’s lost. He’s sworn
to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova
makes him smile. He knows he’s too damaged to get close to her, yet she’s the
only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does
he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?

My Review:

I’m a
huge fan of Jessica Sorensen ever since I read ‘The Coincidence of Callie &
Kayden’ almost a year ago. So when I received ‘Breaking Nova’ through the
Little Brown Book Group in exchange for my honest review I was so super
excited. If I hadn’t received this book from the Little Brown Book Group I
would totally have bought it myself.
In ‘Breaking
Nova’ we meet Nova Reed a nineteen year old girl who’s been through a lot
lately. Not only has Nova witnessed something horrible when she was only twelve
years old, now Nova has lost her best friend and first love. Nova is devastated
and doesn’t know who she is anymore. She struggles through her days trying to
forget about those horrible events. Until Nova meets Quinton Carter.
Quinton’s
days are filled with guilt and remorse. When his dad tells him to leave,
Quinton moves in with his cousin. Day in day out, Quinton tries to forget the
terrible event that happened a year ago. Quinton is convinced he wasn’t supposed
to be alive anymore and the quilt of surviving is eating him alive. He no
longer sees a point in living his life, until he meets Nova. Nova is sweet and
beautiful and although Quinton doesn’t think he deserves to be around her he
can’t seem to stay away.
The
thing about Jessica Sorensen’s books is that they always make me feel so many
different things. Jessica Sorensen is a truly amazing story teller and although
her main characters are mostly very sad and broken people her book are also
full of hope and love. Somehow her books always seem so real to me and I can
totally lose myself in her stories. And ‘Breaking Nova’ is no exception. From
the moment I started reading about Nova and Quinton I was totally addicted to
this book. I loved the raw emotions in this book. There are a lot of sad and
heartbreaking moments but it is also such a strong story about what death can
do to people. But mainly this book was about what people can do to each other. People
can bring so much sadness to each other’s lives but some people also really
make each other better.
In this
book I don’t have one favorite character. I loved Nova and Quinton both and I
loved how they could find some peace in each other’s company. I felt so sorry
for the both of them and I really wished their lives would have been easier. I
also really think that their live would have been different if their support
systems weren’t so disturbing. Like Nova’s friend Delilah, that girl had some
serious problems and I feel like she kind of took Nova on the wrong path. And
for Quinton, that guy had nobody, not even his own dad. His dad thrown him out
of the house when he was in such a bad place and never looked for him again. I
really loved that they could make each other smile.
I can
definitely say that I loved this book and I would definitely recommend it to
other readers out there. This book is definitely another great one by Jessica
Sorensen and its going on my favorite list. I can’t until the next book comes
out and I can read more about Quinton. This book just really makes you scream
for more.
