After reading a lot of Contemporary Romance novels last year, I decided I’d change things up a little this year and also read other genres more. So when I saw this mysterious looking cover and read that it was a Romantic Suspense novel, I signed up immediately. And I got super excited to receive an ARC.
In ‘Daughter of Secrets’ we meet Olivia Carter. Olivia is an accountant with not a lot of people in her life. Her only family, her parents, died a few years back and now Olivia spends her days working hard and enjoying life with her cat. One day, things change drastically. Olivia finds out her mother was married before she met her father, and the Romanian fast-food mogul Andrei Rusu now died and left her everything. And let me tell you.. that is a lot! Olivia now owns millions and several houses and castles. But what Olivia wants most is to learn more of her mother’s secret life so she travels to Romania. In Romania Olivia meets the kind, but very poor tour guide Christian. And together they learn more about Olivia’s mom and Andrei Rusu.
This book took a little while for me to get into. Olivia’s character was from the very beginning a little too naïve for my taste, and her decisions took some time to get used too. But I kept on reading and slowly on this book definitely grew on me.
The best thing about this book to me, was definitely Christian. I loved his character. He was very kind, caring and definitely worked very hard to make sure his mother and sisters had everything he could give him. And his ‘touring car’ was definitely key for some funny moments.
The suspense was a little too predictable for my taste, but I loved the mysterious and almost horror feeling this book gave at times. And it definitely made me want to keep on reading. I also enjoyed the fact that this book took place in Romania. We don’t get to read a lot about it, but the things we did read I enjoyed and I found very original. And I loved the sweet romance between Olivia and Christian.
Overall, this book was a fun one.
