Being a fanatic book addict I obviously have a dream image
inside my head about how my dream literary collection would look like. I
picture myself living with my boyfriend in a big ‘old’ house, having a lot of
land surrounding it and an old butler named Jeeves. Of course there is a huge
library in this house. I always think of the library in Disney’s ‘Beauty and
The Beast’, as my dream library. It’s big, and those ladders… I love it. So
obviously I have a clear picture in my head of this dream. So when Invaluable, an online auction marketplace, approached me with the question if I wanted to make a
post about my dream literary collection, my mind immediately got very busy.

Lot 102
There are a lot of books I would want in my dream
collection, honestly there are too many I can put in one post. But the first
book that immediately popped up in my head was ‘Harry Potter and the
Philosopher Stone’ by J.K. Rowling.
I have read the Harry Potter series many times and still
after almost 15 years I can honestly say that this series is still my absolute
favorite. Every time I start reading the first book again, I get this exciting
feeling. And although I can dream and recite almost every page of this book, I’m
still hooked to every page. So I would love to have this first edition of ‘Harry
Potter and the Philosopher Stone’. This book would receive a special place in
my library. And only I would be allowed to touch it, obviously. (LOL)

Lot 260

Being Dutch, and hearing the stories from my grandparents
about World War Two, I’ve heard a lot about Anne Frank while growing up. I’ve
visited her house in Amsterdam and I read Anne Frank’s Diary for the first time
when I was around fifteen years old. My mom encouraged me to read this dairy,
and reading this definitely left an impact on me. I think this is one of those
books, that everyone should have to read at least one time. Just so people will
remember how lucky we are to live in relatively free country, and how important
it is to make sure that we keep fighting to make this world a better place.

So I would really want a first edition of Anne Frank’s ‘Het
Achterhuis’, in my dream literary collection. Not because it’s a famous book,
but because I would want this book to have a nice spot in a library so people
can see it, and to make sure it will still be read for many many generations
after us.
There are some collectible books that aren’t available at for auction on Invaluable yet, that I would definitely want in my dream literary
collection. For example the books by Jane Austen, and especially a first
edition of ‘Pride & Prejudice’. Obviously these books are probably really
rare and already in some rich people’s hands, but since I’m still dreaming, I
think I can dream about owning a first edition Jane Austen novel. Like Author
Jen Printy ones wrote in one of her books, ‘Times haven’t changed that much.
Every woman still longs for her very own Mr. Darcy.’ And Mr. Darcy really
deserves a place in my library.

I would also love to have my own edition of ‘Romeo and
Juliet’ by William Shakespeare. Since I’m a real romantic book lover, I love ‘Romeo
and Juliet’ and every book and story that’s based on this play. I seriously
love the drama of Shakespeare’s stories so my dream literary collection
definitely needs to have a copy of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in it. It doesn’t even
have to be a first edition, just a beautiful looking ‘old’ copy would be
perfect enough for me.

As a reader and lover of almost every genre out there, I
would love to have a first edition of many kinds of books. Even a first edition of ‘Fifty
Shades of Grey’ or ‘Twilight’ would be something I would be interested in. It’s maybe not
very valuable now, but I loved these books and a first edition would look
lovely on my shelves.
Obviously my dreams are big and will go on forever. Some people
dream about traveling and being famous, I dream of books and having my very own
library. Invaluable definitely is a marketplace that makes these dreams seem
not so impossible and I loved browsing through their website and dreaming of
possible adds to my dream literary collection. But for now I’ll keep dreaming.
